I got pulled over today by the most stuck up policeman ever (now i remember why i hate them) who told me to turn my front fog lights off, i was under the impression it isn't illegal to drive with them on at night and was about to argue this point with him when i thought better of it.

Can someone tell me if its illegal or not?????

What? So you DIDN'T have your front foglights on then? Or do you mean you weren't stopped by Plod? :|

I wish they'd do something about the 300 muppets I see driving round with their BACK foglights on two weeks after any fog!

If the lights are fitted and called "Fog Lights" then the maximum visibility must be under a pre determined amount (something like 100-150metres). Some vehicles have "driving lights" which are classed differently I believe.

I will see what other info I can dig up.

Regards

Don't know about the UK, But it's definately forbidden here in The Netherlands and in Belgium. They are pretty strict on it over here... :(

The Pug 106 GTi has driving lights I believe - they only come on when full beam is activated and you can't turn them on seperately.

Yes. It an offence under the Vehicles Lighting Regulations for fog lights to be illuminated other than in conditions of seriously reduced visibility (whether it's night or not). The offence is punishable by a £30 fixed penalty notice.

It's actually WORSE to use them at night because the pattern of light is directed straight at other road users. You may as well ask if it's ok to drive around with your main beam permanently on.

It's in the highway code; when was the last time you read that? ;)
