I would take it to court and use the arguement that as the "officer" logged your speed using a dashboard mounted electronic aid and using his rear view mirror, he was at the same time driving with undue care and attention. In addition he was doing exactly the same speed and was not attending an call to the emergency services (unless the kettle boiling is classed as an emergency now). Also the results are only as accurate as his reactions - and also his vision - how far behind the police vehicle were you? I would seriously consider getting some legal advice on this - police officers with an attitude of Judge Dredd should be pulled down a peg or two and made an example of.
Thank you for reascerting my low opinion of the many corrupt, lying and cheating plods on our roads that hold themselves above the law because they have £800 worth of stickers on their car.
Another thing springs to mind - if the only evidence is a flimsy little machine on the dashboard of his car then I would want to see calibration certification for that day and also exact distance covers down to metres - there is no way in the world that (s/)he would be able to prove beyond "reasonable doubt" that they pushed the button at the right time. At the very least if it goes to court Judge Dredd will incriminate himself by giving any form of evidence - and then the "lead by example" card should be played. Go get em.
/me wanders away mumbling some very unpleasant things indeed.

I'll try to keep it short
But last year i was been cut off by a car while i was passing another car and on safe distance of another. I had to brake and, of course, i got up to his bumper and stayed there (whilst pointing to my head
). He then showed his brakelight a few times... He flashed his lights to the car in front of hime and when that car went to the right (remember this is the mainland i'm talking about), he stepped on the pedal and drove away when i was behind him again. I showed him my disaproval about his way of driving (not even using the finger
). At that point a sign came up "Stop Police". The
was a
policeman.
He fined me for "speeding" and staying on the left lane to long (while i was driving behind him and at first was passing another car!).
Costs me about 275EUR.
Clearly he didn't know what he was talking about, because he COULD have fined me for drinvg too close to another vehicle. Which would have cost me about 450EUR at 130KM/H.
At first he said it was all on track, i asked him to show it to me. He did not and he also did not wanted to show me his Police ID.
In took it to court but it was his word against mine. So of course i lost!

Well, heres my sob stories...
Few years ago I was on a wide laned carriageway travelling up a fairly steep incline. I pulled out to overtake a 40 ft lorry which was crawling up the hill, as i drew level i saw the reason he was going extra slow was a couple of old biddys in a Morris Minor in front of him. I was coming towards the end of the wide bit of the carriageway and i knew there was a copper behind me...
Two Choices:
1. Drop a gear and speed to pass both vehicles.
2. Maintain speed limit and encroach over hashed lines by approx 15-20 metres.
I chose option 2...3 points and a fixed penalty. Copper said i should have chosen option 1 as he had no method of collaring me for speeding fitted in his car. Rats.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Travelling along the Great Western Way in Swindon which is a dual carriageway interspersed by lots of roundabouts (now thats a surprise in Swindon!) The Dual Carriageway speed limit slows from 50mph to 30mph for one particular 1000 metre section. I never saw the sign as a lorry i was overtaking was obscuring it. Pulled by plod with super duper new camera. 54mph in a 30 zone (which i believed to be a 50)
Plod sat down in my car and asked to see license, got my wallet out and he noticed military i.d. card....This was the following conversation:
Cop: Oh so you're in the RAF then? Whereabouts?
Me: RAF Lyneham
Cop: I used to be in the RAF before i joined the police...
(at this point i sense i could maybe get away with this minor traffic infraction
)
Me: Oh yeah? What did you do?
Cop: About 7 years
Me: No, no...what did you DO?
Cop: I was a steward.
(I saw red at this point!)
Me: Oh so you went from a job where you had to be nice to people for a living to one where you have to be a cock to everyone for a living.
End of conversation. 3 points. Fixed penalty.
And the moral of the story?
All coppers are tossers. Especially ex-military ones!

So copper has to take eye of the road to monitor your speed operate equipement so
a ) he's driving without due care and attention
b ) because of a ) and the speed he was driving could'nt possably been in a position to monitor your speed
So your home and dry and get off scot free no points fine etc
Wrong .....you see police drivers are a a special breed not subject normal human frailities bu most importantly specially trained. The can scratch their a**s, eat a yorkie, text their girlfeind and do you for speeding at the same time.

I cannot see how "Rod the Plod" can justify the speed he was travelling at whilst not attending an emergency call.
If they saw me driving along the motorway at any speed on my mobile they would have no quarms pulling me up for undue care and attention, yet he can take his eyes off the road to watch someone behind him pass a point and get off without any repercussions - no way - even worse it's at 90MPH!!!! go get him - report him and kick up a fuss if it goes to court then his evidence is incriminating himself.
