After my oil change last weekend, I'm now getting 350-400 miles per tank instead of 300-350.

I'm in a 1.6 and, at first, I was getting 270 miles out of each tank. Now I get about 300-310 before I fill up. Living in London, i spend a lot of time in traffic which is using more petrol and as long as you drive sensibly, you'll get more mileage on the motorway. Please tell me you've got a 1.6!! I have a 2.0 and am lucky to get 300 out of a tank. Car has done 7500 miles and I'm running Optimax which I thought would have in increased the miles per tank! After my oil change last weekend, I'm now getting 350-400 miles per tank instead of 300-350.
I get the 999mpg occasionally. Normally when I reach around 70mph then take my foot off the accelerator and let the car slow itself down.

MattB - I've got a 2.0, and up til recently I have also been getting less than 300 miles out of a tank of petrol (hasn't even lasted me a week of commuting - 65 miles a day) but the last couple of weeks its been better - averaging 325-350 miles. Ok so the fuel economy is probably better now that I've stopped doing the 70 miles an hour along the country road bit of my journey - too many speed traps have been popping up!! Had the car serviced a couple of weeks back as well and since then it seems to be more fuel efficient. Dread to think what the fuel economy will be like for the rest of the week though cos given the weather report for the weekend, I'm going to be driving everywhere with the roof down!
If I'm not here I'm in Symi.....where the sun is always shining.....

Does having the roof down really make that much difference to the fuel economy?
How much in terms of knocking off miles per tank?
Lee
BTW - Some of you may recall that I was made redundant in Jan - well - update - last week I got myself a new job! I start on Wednesday....a nice 25 min drive from home....hopfully with the roof down!

I've just been taking it easy the last week or so. If I hammer it, it will knock 50 miles off a tank easily.
BTW - I had my roof down all the way up to the match on Saturday - I managed 250 miles on 2/3 tank.
