Everyone at work has been taking the p**s this morning.
There was an article in the Telegraph yesterday about the CC.
I advise everyone not to look at the Telegraph motoring web
site, dont look at features and completely ignore the article
whose title begins with the word TOOT.

Hahaha that article is hilarious!!

I'm sure pug thought "hey, lets design a gay car". And just because many homosexuals own CCs, does that mean that all CC owners are gay?

I also like the "what makes a car gay" bit - "originality, unconventionality, design" apparently. To me, those three things make a car that's unique, different and stands out amongst the rest. Nothing wrong with that at all. Isn't it just that homosexuals are often more conscious about looks, fashion, style etc (just look at the fashion industry) in which case they will be drawn to the better looking cars?

And this is the funniest bit of all:

"With the Peugeot's two positions, you could almost say that the car swings both ways for double the pleasure!"

What a total load of shite ;)

Toot if you're glad to be gay
(Filed: 05/04/2003)

Your flash new car might get you laid, but did you ever stop to think exactly who is aching to pull up to your bumper? Jason Whittaker offers a guide to whether your car is a straight speedster or a driving diva

You know your car sends out signals, but are they the right ones? Take your new Peugeot 206CC. You think it's whispering "sexy stud", slyly smirking "I'm the man", but perhaps it's also positively yodelling "bender".

Pretty in pink: fashion designer Julien Macdonald with the Ford Streetka
Pierre and Jeff would like to think so. In September 2002 they created France's "Club Automobile Rainbow" and, with the 20-odd members, elected the Peugeot 206CC Gay Car of the Year. "The coupé cabriolet concept is an innovation on a small car, and gays are naturally drawn to new concepts," they explain. "The Mercedes SLK already uses a similar system but at a much higher price. With the Peugeot's two positions, you could almost say that the car swings both ways for double the pleasure!"

The thousands who have already bought a 206CC might be turning a shade of green rather than pink as they realise their flash new baby is getting seductive looks from unimagined directions. "We've been surprised by the reactions. People have contacted us from Brazil, Germany and England, although as far as we know France is the only country to have elected a Gay Car of the Year. I don't think it will have an effect on sales," says Jeff, "although for some reason they've really taken off on the Côte d'Azur."

So what makes a car really gay? The club's website (clubautorainbow.9online.fr) says the winning qualities were originality, unconventionality, design, and - quite blithely - the fact that a lot of gays have bought it. The site also includes illustrated hints on how to wash you car (with your shirt off, after three months of lifting weights) and how to avoid breaking down (involves lots of lubricant).

"So many cars are obviously designed for heterosexuals and their kids that there's nothing odd about calling a car gay," argues Pierre. "As for the Peugeot 206CC, some would say that we're drawn to the masculinity of the design, but I'm not convinced it's as macho as that. I think that gays are more capable of accepting difference and diversity in life, and the same goes for their choice of car."

The poll was a close-run thing. Second prize went to the MINI, with the former favourite, the new VW Beetle, trailing in third. "It's obviously very subjective. Look at the Peugeot 505; in the US it was pitched as sexy, whereas in Europe it's the epitome of a family car."

Gay Car of the Year: the Peugeot 206CC
Already the proud owners of a Lancia Y and a Jaguar cabriolet ("We love our English car," they coo), Pierre and Jeff will soon be investing in a Smart Roadster coupé, their big tip for next year's winner. "Or it could be the Citroën C3 Pluriel, the MINI Cabriolet or the BMW Z4."

The competition is already hotting up. Meanwhile, the taste-making duo are raring for the award to go global: "We're just waiting for other countries to start a similar contest, so we can get invited."
