Brake Squeal - do better pads help?

I noticed in a previous post that someone had tried fitting lockheed pads to cure the brake squeal- does anyone know if this works.

Our 206cc started brake squealing from about one month old (bought September 2002 and now only done 1200 miles), and now squeaks most of the time. From previous posts it seems a bit pointless to seek help under the warranty (also our dealer, Bristol Street Motors in Harlow, Esses, has a very difficult attitude regarding imported vehicles).

Thanks for any advice

i changed my standard pads to EBC Green Stuff pads
no squeel and much better braking, i would say maybe 30% better
the front ones are part number 21234 and the rear 2458/2
about 50 sterling for both sets

Regarding the warranty, call Pug UK and Trading Standards. If it's an EU warranty, they're obliged to honour it.

Noooooo! EBC Greens ('dust free' ) will end up warping your discs. Tried two lots on the Scoob (the second lot were supposed to be 'new and improved version 2') and a set of reds (it was all they had and mine were down to the backing plates) and they all warped the pads.

Most decent pads are squealy and produce a lot of dust :(

If I was going to put aftermarket pads on the Pug I'd use Pagid RS421s.

PS: I've been into the Pug dealer in Harlow twice, and their attitude stinks! No interest at all -- first time we were after a test drive in a CC, second time we wanted some parts for our CC (mats, headlight covers, etc.)

Hunts in Bishop's Stortford are a lot better (even drilled out the rivets holding our import's transit plates on for no charge).

Thanks for the advice Carl. Perhaps we'll wait for the official Pug fix (ho ho ho).
Agree about Hunts of BS; we are only 10mins walk from Harlow dealer, but after our experience may be worth 10 mile drive for better service !
May see you around

Only downer is that Hunts told me they may not be a Pug dealer for much longer :(

Which means, of course, that we'll have to take our Pug to Harlow to be serviced (unless I can make a day of it and take it back to Calais 8) )

PS: It's my wife's car so it's her you'll see around, particularly as her sister lives in Harlow. Black 206CCSE, number plate T*HRA (her name's Tahira 8) )

:( Shame. I'l try & avoid Bristol Street Motors unless their attitude improves.

My wife's car is Aegean Blue CC SE FE 52 J**- there are a couple like it in the area, and quite a few 206CC's in various colours
