A month ago I ordered a silver 206cc with black leather but this won't be available until May so I've agreed to go with the red/black factory leather which should be available at the end of March or thereabouts. (I'm in Melbourne OZ and I've made it a requirement that the vehicle have a 2003 build date.)

The dealer has suggested that if I take a fabric interior car and he has leather fitted to it aftermarket that I'll get my car quicker and I can select from a range of leather colour options.

I'd be interested in the views of forum members about which they consider better (and why) - factory or aftermarket leather arranged by the dealer prior to delivery.

Also, if aftermarket leather what colour would go best with silver? A deep, rich reddish brown would be my preference if I don't go for the factory option.

If you go for retro-fit, I'd **personally** always go for a standard colour and, in the UK at least, brown isn't standard and it would clash with the black/grey trim in my UK car... my tuppence worth anyway :D Some people say that the red leather looks orange... but others rave about it so it's up to you. Is there a massive cost difference? I know there's a massive delivery time difference - but whatever you decide, good luck and have fun ;)

Aftermarket leather may put people off when it comes to resale time.

After market leather is much better than factory fit IMO. I hear the factory stuff is crappy quality, and with aftermarket you can choose which ever quality and colour you like. Just make sure you check out the quality of their workmanship first. I could recommend a few in england but that would be quite a trek for you!!

I would wait for factory leather if I were you. The dealer suggested for fabric interior only because he can get one quicker for you hence quicker commision in his pocket.

As it is a new car, I wouldn't like someone ripping the interior to pieces to install aftermarket leather. Would you?

"Wilsonson" got his done aftermarket if you want to have a look. I don't know what his member number is. Drop him a PM or something.

I am in Melbourne too - and had an offer of swapping leather from another car (we have a Moonstone 1.6cc with red-black factory-fitted leather. It looks sensational. We had to wait from December 2001 to June 2002 to get our car - but it was worth it. I would definitely advise against after-market (as Trung agreed), for similar reasons, but also because it is unlikely you will get all the fine detail including leather steering wheel and glove box in the red/black combination. Who is your dealer - ours is Regan Motors.

May is not far away!

Cheers!

Thanks for all the responses.

I've decided that I don't have particularly strong feelings either way and that I'll go for the factory leather option but if that becomes too difficult I might be talked into aftermarket...which from what I can tell is of a good quality.
