I hate to come on here and defend Peugeots, but should just point out some useless information.
All cars obviously vibrate. Parts of the engine, exhaust, gearbox ect. will all vibrate at a given frequency. However at a certain rev range 2 or 3+ of the cars component frequencies will resonate causing a strange humming sound at said point. I have had this in every car I have owned. In my last car it happened at 3500rpm in the pugs it’s 2900rpm. I am not saying that some manifolds are not being damaged, but this is normally a harmless characteristic of any engine. That said resonant frequencies have been known to cause severe damage in all forms of engineering. Split manifolds usually present themselves by causing the car to “backfireâ€
Have had an exhaust manifold problem? (comments)

It's not paranoia if there is a problem. I don't think Peugeot would replace exhaust manifolds unnecessarily.Just thought there maybe some owners getting paranoid about this issue

My manifold was replaced because it was split.
The other main cause of resonance noise around 3,000rpm will be the plastic engine cover and this problem is also found on the standard GTI engine on non CC 206s.
Either way it is not unreasonable to ask the dealer to address the problems. I have now had both fixed - addition of padding under the engine cover, and replacement of the damaged manifold - it took a few visist though to get it all sorted.

Just read through my original post and didn’t want people getting the wrong end of the stick when I wrote
"Just thought there maybe some owners getting paranoid about this issue"
I am not saying those who have or are about to have a new manifold fitted to there car don't have split manifolds. I am just know there will be some owners on the forum who will be driving around thinking that at 2900rpm they have an unusual sound coming from there engine. When the sound is simply resonance.
For those who have had problems with there cars. I do know how frustrating it can be, but please take my posts with a pinch of salt and a SOH.

i think if you hear the noise then you hear it and won't be imagining it. it isn't exactly a minor change in noise level.

Given that one cause is the manifold and another is a rattling cover, here's the solution to the cover:

By the way. I've just followed that guide. I used sections of hosepipe and double-sided tape.
