Just come to arrange (free) 6k/6 month service, and realised that the voucher (page 3 in the warranty document) has been removed. The car's an import, and I've had it from new.

Sooo - it looks like somebody has put a claim into Peugeot for reimbursement for a service they never did. The source garage is in Paris, and the car came to me from Motorpoint (Burnley). And Motorpoint posted the document out to me, late.

Anybody else had this? Looks like I'll have to pay for the service, but that doesn't bother me so much as the warranty situation - I'll write to Peugeot UK to try to get them to sort it out. Any suggestions on how to get the best results from the monkey house?

So what have we learned today, Steven? Always check the documentation thoroughly before you pick up a car :(

Apparently, it's only a 1/2 hour levels check anyway - shouldn't be too expensive.

Funny u should say that

Took my car in for 6 mth service and my warranty book displays the wrong vin number.
( i found this out the day after i received the car)
Dealer insisted I should pay . Took up with the importer , they refused to pay saying that even if the wrong book was supplied pug should honour the service as it is just a manufactures inspection.

Put this to dealer - they insisted i pay , only £15 plus vat , but I asked them to put on the receipt that I had to pay as the book was wrong ( I intended to take it up with the importer and pug uk as they both said that they would still honour the service).

When I went to pay after the half hour service the service manager told me not to worry as they would sort it. :D

But somewhere someone is driving around with my warranty book probably with the same problem as me.

I also bought a new warranty book from pug , put my Vin number on it and had it stamped after the service - the old one is useless anyway.

I hadn't even thought of checking the VIN number!

Also - I'm still under the 6k miles, but I've had the car 8 months. If I need warranty work, I bet they say I've invalidated it. Lets just hope it doesn't go wrong.

I think I had the slip removed too (mine's from motorpoint) but still got a free service. Not sure what the torn out bit is for - it's all in french and, of course, it's missing!

But watch out - the service schedule timings start from when the EUROPEAN DEALER bought the car and then sold it onto motorpoint. That's the date on the foreign receipt they gave you.

It's NOT from the date YOU bought it from motorpoint.

 Looks like this is a common problem amongst importers.

My importer mixed up the SLK service books as well, I explained they had whole responsibility for the mix up and any service problems, they managed to retreive it from another mercedes owner

Perhaps they either:

a). can't read

b don't realise service books have vin numbers and are individual to each vehicle

c). Can't be bothered and just chuck in any old service book with the car

Take you pick

I pick C

this is also the first letter of Cunt , which is what they must have thought I was , I threatened them with trading standards and small claims court and got a letter back promising I would receive the right book, after a heated conversation with the importers I settled for a new book with the importers stamp on it  the problem was although pug dealers told me this book was worthless , none would put it in writing for me to use as ammo, neither would they agree with my stance that the car had been de-valued by not being accompanied with a valid book -in writing.

Also the importers said it was not within the terms of their contract to supply the manuals and books . When I suggested they write to everyone who bought a CC from my 'batch ' of 10 to check they had the right book , and swap if necessary they said that it would be too expensive .

10 * what , 30p for a stamp ?

In this case it might be worth while pointing out to the importers that they have a liability for the goods they supply. In the event of lost injury or death arising from your failure to operate the car properly thay could be liable.

Request in wrighting that they put thier insurers on notice.

hmm thats utterly outragious, if I'd not got my service book back I'd be more than well peed off too.

I think my first stop would have been my solicitor. Then the AA maybe or RAC (there I go again Rob) to see if a report on the devaluation of a vehicle without the proper service book might be possible for use in the small claims court. Failing that I'm sure there must be some specialist independant companies out there such as in insurance/loss adjusting etc that would be willing to write such a report for a fee. Costly in the first instance I know, but such a fee should hopefully be ultimately reimbersable.

At the end of the day I suppose these sort of companies calculate the adverage individual won't go to great inconvenience or lengths to challenge them in court.

Hi Sue and steve

Our 206 cccame from an importer in Leeds (we live in Preston) and the same doc was missing.
We took it to our local dealer for the first service and ended up paying..it was £17.00 no argument there.
Apparently its only a check but well worth it.
May the force be with you
