Well I know we moan about CC problems but Mercedes have their own.
Today after only 6 weeks I dropped of my SLK for SEVEN faults to be rectified:
1). Alarm arming itself when left unlocked - I was told this was the setting for Belgium so they re-adjusted alarm setting for UK.
2).3 occasions car wouldn't lock unless pointing remote fob against car window at roof sensor - technician forgot to mention it -will follow up.
2). Indicator stalk doesn't always automatically return - no fault found.
3). When closing boot lid bounces off lock catch - settings adjusted.
4) Engine rattle between 1200/2000 revs - Variable camshaft timing sensor fault found - will take 2 days to obtain part and fix.
5). Engine maybe slightly slower in low revs - I'm told infact its one of the fastest 2 litre SLK's they've tested - lol it must be my driving then.
6). Wipers leaving arc marks on screen in rain - wiper changed.
I would like to mention though that the Merc technician at Mercedes of Gatwick explained he would be my source of contact throughout the repairs, smiled, came over to me and sat me down at a table with a cup of coffee while we discussed the faults before I left the car with him, and this is an imported car.

Uggh!
had to book the SLK in for a second lot of warranty work that was supposed to have been fixed under warranty a few weeks back.
1). Engine rattle has returned between 1200/2000 revs - it was previously attributed to a variable camshaft timing sensor fault found. Apart fro this annoyance engine runns smoothly and superbly.
While its there I'll get them to check the other fault:
2). On occasions when locking (about 1 in every ten ) car won't lock unless pointing remote fob against car window at roof sensor.

I think that's terrible service - he could have offered you a cup of coffee as well. How rude!

lol @ Greg.
Derek - at least with all these unsociable hours you can pay for your ecosse mods mmm nice.
One other frustarution apart from the on going warranty problems. I've been waiting for my service book from the importer for 12 weks now after they confirmed it would be sent by the original Belgium mercedes dealer once they had a copy of my V5 certificate (I don't know the reasons for that) after sending in a V5 copy I rang to chase my service book up.
I was told that the importer had sent my service book out to some other merc owner by mistake and that the one they had left wasn't mine. They would have to investigate.
I can see a storm brewing if me service book doesn't turn up before my first service is due in 5000 miles cos the lack of a merc service stamp & service book could effect the residual value of the car

Sigh, my 3rd warranty visit to mercedes of Gatwick in 3 months, this time they had it 2 days, I picked the slk up this morning.
where do I start.
2 previous warranty problems still persist.
1). Engine rattle between 1200/2000 revs - I was told last time it was a variable camshaft timing sensor fault found - sensor replaced at last warranty service a month ago.
This time I'm told the rattle is a known problem in the bullitins as an SLK mercedes engine problem:
Problem: inlet camshaft mechanism produces noise when hot.
Cause - the tolerances of the components involved are too large.
Solution - at present none. There is no part available to remedy the fault. Mercedes are currently working on a modified part to rectify the noise.
I am told they will notify me once they have a fix available.
.......................
The other persisting warranty issue.
2). The car has been in on 2 previous occasions as sometimes the car wouldn't lock unless pointing the remote fob against the car window at roof sensor.
I picked the car up this morning after spending 2 days at the garage and was told they can't find a remote locking problem.
Got home, tried to lock the SLK with the remote fob in the drive - nothing!
Rang Mercedes of Gatwick (Malaya) who told me to ring mercedes roadside assistance to look at the fault.
A mercedes representative came out 2 hours later from Mercedes of Gatwick. He told me there is in fact a problem with the locking system and that my SLK would have to be recoverd on Monday morning and a courtesy car delivered.
