There are two options here.

1. Posting harmful links without any warning is wrong. Harmful links aren't just those which actually contain a virus, but also those that cause your system to use so many resources that the system slows right down and can even crash.

2. Posting anything is fine. Who cares who it harms? It didn't harm me so it's their fault not mine.

I think you need an option for "posting harmful links without warning is wrong"

I'll change the option, rather than have a new one.

Posting harmful links with a disclaimer saying "HARMFUL LINK!" isn't wrong. People clicking a harmful link after that do deserve everything they get.

OK one other thing - the site seems to do different things on different PCs. I remember Erm saying that it just popped up windows, and he could shut it down easily. At the other extreme, it crashed Explorer on my machine but I could recover OK. Obviously different people have had different experiences (mvoong's PC died totally etc).

Therefore was the original poster aware that it could cause so much damage, or was it just an innocent mistake?

Judge Matt ;)

It opens a window which flies around the screen proclaiming "You are an idiot!" When you remove that window, it spawns smaller windows. There is no limit on the number of these windows which means they keep opening until your system's resources are exhausted and the computer crashes.

This certainly happens on Windows running IE. Whether it happens on other systems and/or running other browsers is another matter. The fact is that the majority of the world (rightly or wrongly) uses Windows + IE and this site has been written specifically to attack those users. It is not a virus as such, but it will trigger certain AV programs due to its nature.

I was actually fine, but only because I sat there pressing Alt-F4 repeatedly until all the little buggers went away.

I think the person in question did not know that it would crash other machines as it seemed fine on his machine

However, my annoyance is the lack of an apology for causing this chaos.

If I had innocently put something up that meant someone lost work the first thing I would do is apologise.....its not that hard to do!

However innocent it all was, a little sorry goes a long way....

Yep but my real annoyance, the fact that Stephen refused to remove the link for a day even though people were telling him his link was causing computer problems, no excuse for that.

And of course the PM threat to me of violence, that is beyond comprehension, I hope this immature guy has gone for good.

I have asked Lyndon to ban him for that alone, we don't want members doin that.

Robbie.

ok i did not know the full extent of the link as it didnt cause me any problems whatsoever. it was posted on the cw forum and no1 seemed to mind or made any complaints (at first) so as far as i was aware it was ok. the reason i refuse to say sorry is because some ppl jumped the gun here and and slated me (even though i didnt even know what its full capabilites were). and robbie u are really getting on my tits now. does your life revlove around this forum or something? it seems as if this little escapade has given u a reason to live. grow up.

this will be my last post. i ain gunna bother wasting my time with the forum from now on.
