Have to disagree with the comments about Tesco they have been very good for me.

I had to speak to their claims dept (someone drove into the back of me). They didnt offer courtesy cars at the time but they spoke to the other parties insurance company for me and got them to give me a car. :)

As always, levels of customer service vary between customers. But id recomend them

Derek, hows about Elephant.co.uk?

Insured my imported SLK cheaply through them an saved a small fortune, they seem eager for custom.

Derek,

What was AXA's increase in premium for your other mods ie. lexus lights, clear fog light, SP grill, SP arches, Painted black bits? My insurance is up for renewal on the 5th and I have to start looking around as well. My current insurance is with AXA and they sent me a renewal letter for £771 which is only 70 quid better off than last year, but when I went back into their website and put in all my details it came out at £630!!!! That's the same company and same details...what gives? Also if I take my girlfriend off it goes down to £570-time to get a new girlfriend I think! :D

Michael
michael,

their telephone / internet quotes always vary for some strange reason.

i have no idea what their increase was as there wasn't any point asking as they wouldn't insure it lowered. when i added £700 body mods for hoops, lights, extensions and grille their wasn't a charge but i guess another £1200 of mods may have increased it.

after working night shift last night, i was just about to go to bed when there was a knock at the door. the postwoman had a recorded delivery letter from AXA.

opened it to see they had cancelled my insurance from sunday giving me 7 days notice but only with 3rd party cover. the arses never told me this on sunday, so i have been driving for the last 3 days without comphrehensive insurance.

needing to get to bed i also had to sort out insurance.

i left out direct line and tesco as their courtesy car additional cover only lasts 14 days so they were a bit risky.

my current policy with AXA was £597 with £175 excess without the additional £1500 of modifications recently added. i tried liverpool victoria at £676 with £250 excess but didn't have time to phone many more as i'm very tired, not slept since sunday night. ended up going with adrian flux. cost is £625 although excess is high at £300 but included like for like cover on all mods which are valued at £2200 (once i get spoiler fitted). they also offer a guaranteed courtesy car which i really need.

i then had great pleasure in phoning AXA right away and politely told them to shove their 7 days notice :P only good thing i'll say for them is i get a £464 refund on the unexpired part of my policy which means there are no penalties for cancelling.

i had a lot to say in praise of AXA after their service in my first year but after their recent actions such as cancelling my policy without making this clear then i won't recommend them again.

going to sleep now :D

you never know col - she was a right stupid cow :D

at the end of the day now i'm finished with AXA, refund on the way and that's the way i'll keep it - plenty of other insurance companies out there.

on an even brighter note, my policy is only £28 dearer than AXA yet i have far better cover with all mods covered and like for like cover. only thing is the higher excess but that's not big deal.

Probably close to the truth-won't insure me for the arches, grill and paintwork I've done to the car so I'm also looking elsewhere now. At least they'll keep me comprehensively insured until next Tuesday when my policy expires. Sent a quote request to Adrian Flux so waiting for a reply. Here's hoping eh?

a bit strange, they covered me for the arches, grille, hoops and lexus lights earlier but then refused the lowered suspension. don't know if they were going to allow the rest of the mods as they never said.

you might be quicker phoning adrian flux for a quote. i sent a quote request on sunday night but hadn't replied by tuesday morning so i had to phone them - they said replies can take time as they are busy.

plus point is that they insure like for like unlike quite a few others.

Tesco cover NOS - they are underwritten by UK insurance. It will add around 30% to your premium depending on how much of a boost you go for

Just renewed mine with Direct Line - gave the cheapest quote by £50.

All my mods (grill, lights, hoops etc) & audio (up to £1k) are insured like-for-like for no premium increase.

Have you tried A-Plan insurance (they're brokers)? I'm with the Hemel Hempstead office. I know a number of people insured through them and they're quite competitive.

TBH the 'direct' insurers are usually only competitive for 'mainstream' people (aged 30-50, 1.6 litre family car, etc.)
