Hi

I got my car in May 2002 and so far I have had the exhaust manifold replaced twice, the last one fitted a week ago.

The first couple of days you could tell it was ok but now Im 99% sure it has gone again. That means I am on my 3rd manifold now, with a 4th manifold to come. Thats 4 manifolds in 9 months!!

The last time it was in they told me they have replaced the injector coils as they thought this might be letting unburnt fuel into the manifold which was causing hot spots and therfore burning away the inner skin.

Im not a mechanic so I dont have a clue what there on about.

Can you please post if you have had a manifold replaced, thanks.

Im not sure where Im going to go with this, possibly speak to PUG UK, but I know the number of people who use this web site only make a small % of the total CC's sold.

Help

Thanks

Cheers

I've had a new one, replaced after I complained about the throaty 'grrr' vibrat-y noise under hard revs (all the time), didn't make a blind bit of notice though, so when it goes in for it's 40K service I'll let them have another look, tey can fix my boot lock then aswell :(

:?: Is my manifold gone?

At around 2800 revs I get a noise - as if the engine is revving higher than it should be but I woudn't go as far as to say that it sounds like a hole in the exhaust - any ideas?

Garnett

It sounds like your manifold has gone to, its not an actual visible hole but the manifold has 2 skins and its the inner skin that has gone.

Correct me if Im wrong anybody....

My intention with this thread is to get as many people to post who have had this problem so that I can approach PUG UK with it.

I dont know if it will make much difference but I have nothing to loose.

Mr_Awol

Thanks for your input. If I was going to print this thread and send it PUG UK, your monkey comments will really help my cause. I find it very amusing you can use someone elses problems to humour yourself, which you then feel you have to share with everybody else. And to be honest the monkey jokes are getting a little tiresome.

As there are 2 mechanics at my PUG dealer that are of ethnic background (Afro-Caribbean) Im sure they will find your commenst hilarious.

Cheers mate.

i'm sorry but that post makes the monkey thing sound a bit like a racial insult which it certainly isn't. thought i would make that clear :)

hi Sam,
yep I had the same problem, and a second manifold was duly ordered and fitted by the dealership, however these guys seem to be different from most places in that they do their best for you all the time. I picked it up and they said they had replaced it but weren't 100%sure on the fix and asked me to see the difference and if it improved after bedding in, well it was better, but still there, so i took it back a cpl of weeks later, dropped it off in the evening, they parked it in the locked garage because they wanted it secure because of all my ice, and 2pm the next day they said it was fixed.
I didn't manage to get down their till the evneing and was a bit rushed but the fix wasn't the manifold this time, apparently it was quite small and i noticed it was fine from the moment i drove it.
i will give them a call tomorrow and ask them what the final solution was and will post it up here.
but everyone ... not all dealerships are bad, i cant recommend these guys enough.

i've got the same problem but what does a broken manifold do to the car besides making vibrations when accelerating?
