Hi
I'm a new owner of a 206cc from Sydney Australia. Picking up the car in 2 hours time at Asquith and Johnstone
I've been speaking to Pioneer UK regarding a possible connector that will connect my Pioneer P7450MP to the radio stalk. I've been asked if my Nov 2002 built CC has a VAN BUS multiplex system? Anyone know?
For those interested, the Pioneer part number is CR-RB307PS. I'll let you guys know if this part does the trick.

I only have the hazard button, but i'm pretty sure it is multiplexed, it's just a matter of if it's VAN BUS or CAN BUS type of multiplex system?hmm 2002 model ? yep i reckon it'll be multiplex. the easiest way to check is if you have just hazrd light button or hazard and lock button in front of the display.

I think the latest full multiplexed cars have both CAN and VAN systems onboard. The CAN does the important stuff like engine management and ABS as it is a quicker system, and the VAN does the rest. Believe there is 3 VAN circuits on the car and 1 CAN all meeting at the BSI for processing and monitoring. Earlier half multiplexed cars only had the CAN bit.
My car is a sep 02 full mutliplexed SW and it has just a hazard button - no dead locks on my car hence the button is not split, depends on the spec. The easiest way to spot a full mutliplexed car is the delays you get when operating the horn or windscreen washers and the lights too - its really annoying that delay. Pentium upgrade required for the 207 I reckon !

Yeah, i did notice a big delay when it comes to pressing the horn!! I thought it was just me not pressing it hard enough or at the right spot! The easiest way to spot a full mutliplexed car is the delays you get when operating the horn or windscreen washers and the lights too - its really annoying that delay. I think I can get back to Pioneer UK to confirm my CC is VAN BUS for ICE purposes. Hope their adaptor works for the remote stalk! Thanks!

I can confirm that my Australian October 2002 has both can and van busses in it, the can bus has the under bonnet etc stuff on it and there are 3 other lower speed buses (body, comfort and safety, I.C.E. equipment is fitted to the comfort bus) which are van. these are all linked by a siemens brand BSI (built in systems interface) which handles communications between the various busses which helps prevent the more inportant systems being caught up in traffic jams.
I think that you will see a lot more devices coming up which can interface using these systems as they are very simple and cheap to use, i have made a head up speed display for the windscreen that gets its data from existing sensors through the van bus (there is enough factory equipment that polls for the cars speed regularly on the van bus so my device sits there passively and checks for addresses that indicate the cars speed) and the interface side of it cost around $30 AUD.
Bosch were the company which pushed the whole can bus thing along and I recall seing a table on a website which listed audio equipment compatability with this bus however quite a few units were not available in australia as a lot of them were oem type units which came out on various makes or cars. If it would be of use to you let me know and I will try and find this table again.
Regards,
Mick.
