I know this sounds daft, but I can't find how to open the bonnet on my CC. The user manual shows a arrow pointing vaugely to somewhere above the accellerator pedal, but apart from a loose wiring loom there is absolutely nothing there that looks pullable.

Somebody tell me I'm daft.

its coz they only thing French and left hand drive.

Look in the passenger footwell. Near the door under the glovebox.

Ah. So the photo of a right-hand drive car in the manual showing the position under the steering wheel is just to fool me, then.

Thanks a lot.

My manual is for the CC but the old spec. As mine is new spec some of it is not a lot of use. I had an embarassing time when I had to ring the dealer to find out how to open the bonnet as it showed it under the steering wheel NOT the glove box.

Why on earth your manual shows the bonnet release under the steering wheel is a mystery. Its on the passenger side for both the new and old spec.
