Handling at high speed

Hi All.

Managed to get he CC up to a half decent speed this morning due to the M4 being pretty quiet. when it got to around 110mph, I didn't feel in complete control of the car. I used to drive a Vauxhall Tigra and managed to get that up to 130mph once and, although it was a bit white knuckle, I felt relatively happy at that speed. Not sure if its just because the CC is brand new and is actually mine or that it is a shaky car. It's a 1.6 by the way.

How fast do the rest of you get your CC's before you feel a bit unsafe and what size is the engine? How does it feel in a 2.0 to do speeds of 100+?

Well... i got a 1.6 too and i got mine at 125MPH and had no problems.... i felt i got plenty control of it... :D

in the wet it could a bit of a hand full :shock:

i've not gone that quick for years after some VERY close speeding fines that nearly ended in a ban :shock:

130? Hmm, ok then. Will just have to find a straighter stretch of road then. Must just be because its actually my car for a change. There were a few other cars around too which doesn't help I suppose as far as the "let's ave it!" for pushing the pedal down goes.

I have the 15" alloys and no mods though, would this make a difference as you guys all have fancy bits and pieces to help performance etc.

130 is pretty close to max speed - about 6k rpm. Officially, it can only do 126. I never did pay any attention to official figures :P

i've had 130mph on motorway (only joking if any police read this :P ) and it was fine although road was dry.

motorways tend to be quiet at 5.30am but the ppl i overtook must have thought it was a space ship or something :lol:

Yeah, no room for real breack-neck speed during the day (although you get more police around so probably best).

Back when I Dj'ed and would also drive DJ friends around the country, it was great being on the motorway at 2am, no-one else around and just putting my foot down. Love driving on the motorway at night, great fun with the right tunes :D

Theres one thing I do not like about the cc and thats it's handling. I found the rear to be oversprung to a point it is almost dangerous. French are normally good at suspensions!

Get it lowered and uprate the rear to gti spec and you have the car Peugeot should have made.

ive had my 2.0 doin over the 130 on the clock and it seemed to handle fine, wouldnt trust it too much in the wet. spend a lil bit on yer tires and get the bitch lowered improves it loads.

Hi all,
I have found that the non 2.0i cars are very nervous at high speeds, and my 1.4SW is terrible at 90 mph +. I put this down to two things :-

1) the Steering is far too light

2) the track is not wide enough.

Believe the latest cars have speed sensitive power steering which would be a great improvement in my view (assuming that Peugeot get it to work reliably!). Putting fatter wheels/tyres on would again help also, which is my next plan for my car!

The 2.0i cars are a lot wider than the smaller engined cars, hatches, SW's and CC included. I never used to have a problem with my old Gti (except for the 'tramlining' effect from the Pirelli P6000 which were too hard for the 206).

Does the 2.0 CC's have this speed sensitve power steering or is it a 2003 model feature only?

1.6 CC's are definitely a narrower track (and tyres are not as wide either) so that may explain why you are noticing this unstable behaviour that all lesser 206 models suffer from

My 1.6 felt fine at 120mph... er until someone pulled out in front of me :shock: , Ive never been that fast since.

The CC does have speed sensitive power steering - well, at least it's REV sensitive as it runs directly off the fan belt (or whatever it's called these days!)

I think that speed sensitivity is done by an actual speed monitoring device, and basically the faster you go , the less power assistance you get. It may even turn off the power steering at motorway speeds like older BMW's used to.
If it were rev controlled, the steering would potentially get lighter the faster you go, which isn't the idea !

I took mine up to 130 without any worries (other than the fact that i thought i was soon gonna hit the rev limiter in 5th! :lol:
