For those bods purchasing a new CC - after some discussion on another forum re. the cost of personalised number plates I was e-mailed by someone who pointed out that March registration contains '03', if you prefix that with 'OO' then your reg will read 'OOO3 nnn' as 'O' and '0' are exactly the same character on number plates. SO....if your initials are RTJ you could go with

all for a shade under £800, doesn't look too bad eh ?

Hey Stuart- that does look quite effective for £800.

The only problem I can see is that I thought the letters oo wern't included on numberplates cos they looked too much like the 0 number.

If thats the case then wow- thats still pretty effective and not bad for the price, I can see that being a popular prefix, it may even devalue some of the other cherished plates though I think my "7 LTF" should be safe.

collect registrations - I do. Some are worth a small fortune now. Better than putting money in the bank

Good idea - so far i have only collected one, but hopefully my neighbours will leave their cars on the drive instead of putting them in the garage, and a could have quite a few by the end of the month. Do you get the front or back ones or both? i find that people are willing to pay just as much in ransom for one as they are for the pair!

Thinking about this i saw recently in the paper that thousand of people have really had their plates swiped, and that the police think it is to avoid congestion charges. I am very tempted to hide my plates, tell the old bill they've been nicked and then put em back on once i have my crime number. Then, if i get done by a speed camera i can just tell them "if you refer to crime reference ..... you will see that my number plates were stolen on ........ and since i was ...... miles away in ...... at the time of the alleged offence, i think maybe it was a cloned car"

Reckon it will work?

Only if you wear a balaclava, that way you won't be reckognised by the fixed cameras

But what if it is a speed/traffic light gatso style camera - i can just say "sorry, number plate was stolen months ago, and i dont think thats me"

especially if i whip the standard lights back in and say "that car has those clear light things, mine doesnt!"

Yeah but might not be if i start racking up too many more points on the old licence (only got 3 so far, but that is more be luck than good behaviour)
