Automatic Lights and Wipers?

Anybody know how I can SWITCH OFF The Automatic wiper function - it drives us crazy & would far rather have an ordinary intermittent. Manual says that 'if the automatic wiper fails it reverts to intermittent' so obviously possible but infuriatingly doesn't say how ! (it does tell you to switch the auto light function on which we do find useful !)

Anybody out there got a clue please ??
