i thought erm might do this - change the topic to keep the attention away - good move erm :P

as for hijacking :yikes: i would never do that. i merely posted a response regarding engines in relation to the post and the next thing is we have erm going on about playing with things  i don't think this is needed in a family forum erm

let this be the end of your hijacking and return to the original topic

no standard engine, but others can get faster speeds. My friends 1.6 megane done the 1/4 mile in less than 16 secs so was hoping I would! :(

Are Scottish miles shorter than English ones then? 15s in a 1.6 Megane? You must be having a laugh.

A look at http://www.syclone.freeserve.co.uk/rivals_cars.htm shows us that the 'fifteens' range from:
Escort Cosworth and Nissan 200SX at 15.0 seconds to
Honda Accord Type R and Saab 900 Turbo Coupe at 15.9 seconds

Megane Coupe 16V is at 16.2 seconds as is 206 GTi, so I reckon that anything sub 17s for a CC (10% heavier than a 206 GTi) is pretty good going.

The limiting factor isn't the engine it's the suspension. To get the really fast times you need to completely avoid wheel-spin and, in this respect, the 206cc's suspension just isn't up to the job. It's too soft. It's been deliberately softened (from the 206GTi) so as not to shake the car to pieces when the roof is down.

I even get a noticeable momentary loss of grip going over the speed bumps and rumble strips at anything faster than "dead slow".

Even if you can overcome that then you also need to be prepared to mash the gearbox and burn out the clutch. In that respect, taking your own car for speed trials is a mug's game. Borrow someone else's car to do it next time.

Vince.
