Just went to the post office to post a parcel. Left the roof of the car down as I was only going ot be quick. Came out and a chap was having a good look at the car. Wandering around it, checking the curves etc.

Asked how it drives etc and described it as "a looker"

I love my little CC.

Nice to have a car that gets such comments. I've only had 2 people that I don't know approach me but I've been driving for 4 years and never had it before. Only had the CC for 4 months.

Yep when I had my black CC people were always talking to me about it and even stopped me in my drive to talk, I miss that cos people only look at my black SLK but say nothing

Mind you, I went to a friends house today after helping him look over a car to buy, his son said "is that your SLK" eyes wide, so I passed him the keys to look inside and he was off in a shot, glad he didn't drive off with it though.

i like the SLKs. Where I got the CC, they had a black one for only Â£2k more. I decided against it though due to insurance and the fact that they are so common now (sorry). Saying that though, I see a lot more cc's now I have one

Out of interest, how do you rate the roof operation on the SLK compared to the CC? On the merc website, it says "almost instant" but I find this hard to believe (I would class almost instant as about 3 seconds or less). Whats the timing on it? Do you have clips like the CC?

Also, which SLK do you have? I was looking at the different ones and I reckon the one for me would be the 32 AMG (or something like that). Top speed of 155 and 0-62.5 in 5.2 secs! Luvvly jubbly!

Hi Toot,

1). I rate the SLK roof operation highly, its a almost silent wirr not the creaks that I got from the CC (though the CC roof never let me down).

2). The SLK roof operation isn't instant I'm sorry to say, total time takes 26 seconds very similar to the CC, but no roof clips though to worry about.

3). I don't get the roof rubber creaks on the SLK that used to drive me crazy with the CC, and my cabin interior remains silent now to 125mph which is the quickest I've taken it so far.

I have a basic black SLK200 2.0 litre Kompressor (supercharged) with 163bhp, 0-60 in 8.1 seconds. Its plugging the gap until my new shape higher performance SLK is built in 2004. The SLK 200K is surprisingly quick though, I would say quicker than the advertised figures because of the supercharger and because its quite a light car.

I quite like the straight SLK32, 0-60 is in 6.9 seconds and the six cylinder 3.2 engine sounds much smoother & throatier than the 4 cylinder 2.0L & 2.3L engines.

Incidently I was talking to my contact at the local merc dealership yesterday. He says the new 2004 lower end SLK engines will be a basic non- supercharged 1800cc 143bhp model, and two supercharged 1800cc engines badged as 200 and 230 up to approx 225 bhp with just a few tweaks and chip specifications to produce the difference in hp (like I assume the TT).

There will of course be a higher end model equivalent to the SLK32 AMG which as you quite rightly say is a fantastic performance car.

The clips annoy me. It would be nice if they weren't there. I can understand it for safety reasons as the button doesn't become active until they are unclipped. Would be nicer though if there were an "arming switch" as it were mounted on the dash that you had to flick before you could put the roof down.

Toot - the SLK never suffered from any safety problems with no roof clips so I'd be surprised if safety was the sole reason for Peugeot incorporating roof clips into the design.

Its true I find it sooo much easier not to have to release roof clips before and after operating the roof, just a flick of the SLK switch which lights up and turns red to tell you the roof machanism is in operation.

i love the SLK and all this talk is now getting to me! Actually dreamed about SLK's last night

Dreamt my mother had one and she said she would swap the cc for the SLK. I thought hard about it and just didn't know what to do. Fortunately, I woke up before I had to make a decision. I love my little cc and it would feel like getting rid of a family pet. This is not good

well, I wouldn't get a 2nd hand one and I can't afford a new one. Even if I could, I wouldn't be able to insure it.

The CC will keep me going until I can affor the Aston Martin Vanquish that I've been saving for the last year to buy (yeah, right

Flinders Lane Melbourne Australia, a bit before 10am. Sitting at the lights and a gorgeous lady comes to the drivers side of my car from a coffee shop. I drop the window and she says "We just wanted to tell you that you have the cutest car.". Window goes up again, and as I nervously await the lights to change (not even thinking of looking to the coffee shop and her friends within - showing my age here - was that an invitation or what!) drive off and think - "cute?". I got over that. Cute is good enough for me. Of all the cars that could have driven through that lane in the city, my CC was picked out.

Mark my words here and now, the 206CC will be a classic car. Imagine in 20 years time (or more) what it will be like to restore one!

Well the UK dealer 2.0L SLK200k starts at 25.5k, but you can easily cut the price down as I did, I imported mine from Belgium and it cost me only 23k. For that price you get a host of extras that come as standard.

For a UK 2.3L SLK 230 they're around 28.5k but by the time you've bought options like leather plus automatic, uprated alloys, wood instead of aluminium dash, you can easily spend 31k which is about the price I'm forking out for my new shape 2004 SLK.

A 3.2 SLK 320 with all the above options is gonna set you back the best part of 40k.

My advice to anyone wanting to buy a new SLK is don't bother with all the expensive options, my SLK costing 23k is sporty enough, has a real nice looking aluminium sporty dash, a sporty six speed manual that pulls well even in 6th gear and though its cloth seats its real nice quality and the rest of the interior looks like balck leather anyway.

Infact now its covered 4.5k miles I was a little curious as to what the SLK could do today so I put my foot down. The SLK 200k accelerated rapidly and smoothly today past 137mph and just wanted to keep on going on and on, I backed off the accelerator, I don't race, but a Golf GTI at first unknown to me behind was struggling to keep up when I lost him at around 110mph in the back rear view mirror.
