Had a strange one last night, started the car, the stereo came on louder than previously and a loud (louder than the music), slow continuous Beeping sound came from the speakers. I couldnt turn the stereo down or off. Turned the engine off and still had music and beeping (getting embarassing!) still couldnt do anything to stereo, started the car and beeping stopped and I could control the stereo again :???:

Anyone had this one, or any ideas what it could be?

Haven't had this problem but the other day I couldn't change the station on my radio or change the volume. I'd just lowered the roof but it had finished moving so I haven't a clue why it happened. Thankfully the off button still worked for me though.

This is a bit weird now.

I've just replied to your brake light post cause I had the same problem and this is also identical to me!

Your headunit is broken.

The beeping eventually gets louder and louder. The sound gets less and less then the radio starts turning itself on with the air/con!!!

Took it back to the local dealer and they said the headunit wasn't 'communicating with another piece of kit (Can't remember the name!)

They replaced the headunit with a brand new one.

This fixed the problem.

I work in a garage and have heard this kind of noise on various models of car.
It could be that the radio is set to receive travel news (TP) but none of the current selection of stations broadcasts them. The noise is a warning of this and gets louder if it thinks you are ignoring it. Not sure which radio you have, but somehow it can be set not to look for TP broadcasts.

Thanks Andy.
I know the beeping your talking about, i've heard it on pioneer and sony units in the past. This is a standard pug unit and the noise is far too loud for the RDS indicator. It was really loud and like i said i couldnt even turn the unit off.
