Went to open my car this afternoon with the button on the key (as normal!) and was surprised to find that it wuld not work at all - either to unlock or lock!
With no other choice I had to use the key to manually unlock the door and this of course triggered the alarm! Fortunately the car recognises the key in the engine and so would start the car and de-activate the alarm, however it was so embarrasing!
I thought it may perhaps be the battery (for want of a better reason) but as the car is only a month old it really shouldn't be. This theory was dispelled when I got home and without thinking locked the car with the button!! I tested it again and it still worked so I am totally stumped!
Yep we have a problem pub car park near where we live. Cars always getting stuck there as the key fob wont work!
Something to do with an aerial as Lyndon said.
i had a similar problem Michelle, went to unlock the car/alarm using the fob but it wouldnt. Opened the door with the key...alarm sounded...well embarrasing!
If it happens again I will as Pug to change the alarm and fob!
I read in the hand book that using the fob from a great distance can lose the code in it. Which means you have to reprogram it! I was thinking this makes the pressing the lock button to find the car a little dangerous!
Pressing the lock button's fine. It's the unlock button that cycles through the codes which might get to an 'unrecognised' code if you press it too many times away from the car. You can press it at least 5 times (I've tried it) and it will still work.
Michelle: Ha! Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago - I did the same as you, and it hasn't happened....have you tried swapping your normal key for your spare? Try it and see if it happens again...
