it's the wiring system or something.

it goes along the lines of, pre 10/01 models were full of miles of wiring for everything in the car.

after this, it was changed to multiplex which removes a lot of this, makes the car lighter supposedly and makes it easier to add extra electrical components.

that's all i know as i'm not too clued up on things like that. :P

depends when it was built. multiplex models were from some date in october.

easily identified by:

full hazard warning button on dash - pre multiplex
split hazard/central locking button - multiplex

multiplex is no big deal but on the SE, these models benefitted from trip computer, upgraded radio/cd, trip computer and 2 additional rear speakers.

the trip comp isn't too bad. best feature is how long to go before you run out of petrol. although anything under 10 miles it can't calculate it.

basically mulitplex systems uses one set of wires and sends a timed pules. that timed pule is interpreted by a central system and the corrisponding action is carried out. thats why it's difficult to flash or beep ya horn at people as there's a little delay !

Yes, instead of the horn being connected to the battery -ve on one side and the battery +ve on the other via the horn switch, there's basically a wiring 'bus' that runs round the car and into a central computer-type-thing. When you press the horn button (for example) it signals to the computer that you want the horn to sound, then it does it.

PITA when it comes to sounding the horn (delay) or dipping the lights (delay), but good in that the software can be upgraded to add stuff like one touch up 'n' down to the windows, etc.

The CC that I was loaned when I was considering buying one wasn't Multiplex but my new one is - I much prefer it.
