I noticed a strange moaning sound on my 2.0 when the revs passed 2,750 (going up or down). I was worried the dealer would think I was mad but he said it was a problem he had seen on GTi's with the same engine and it is caused by the grey/silvery plastic engine cover which vibrates at this point. They are going to fix it by putting some padding underneath the cover...I'll post the outcome on the site.

P.S. Been away for a few weeks - apart from minor glitches NX is fine following the fire repair...oh and I like the new forum

That is one of the most common problems that the 2.0 litre engine "suffers" from..

The only answer is to stick some matting under the cover to stop the resonance.. Its a pain in the backside but it is the cheap plastic that it is made from that is the problem..

Replacing it with a new one will only stop the noise short term.. then the heat gets to it and the noise starts all over again!!

My CC (2.0) doesn't like sitting on 3000 revs in 4th or 5th gear. It either wants more or less.
It groans if kept on 3000 revs.
I must say most of the time I go faster!!!
Anyone else get this?

I was just reading about the plastic cover on your forum yesterday Simon.

I am not bothered with this car, but if the new one does it I will just 'persuade' them to replace the cover as and when.

A know design flaw, so they must keep replacing it

The fix (assuming they did actually do something) hasn't worked so back it goes....

I've only had my 206cc SE for about six weeks (since Dec 2002) and done about 1000 miles - I've noticed that a strange noise has been coming from the engine at about 3000rpms (accelerating and decelerating), and several people have mentioned that this is due to resonance of the grey engine cover......

I noticed that a few people have mentioned this problem on the site - is it one that still occurs on newly acquired 206's i.e. is this the source of the excessive engine noise???

Thanks in advance,

Yen :D

My SE is making this noise (car isn't 5 weeks old yet!)

It's going to the garage tomorrow so will let you know what happens.

Thanks Matt - I called my dealer today who didn't seem to know anything about this but I did hear their technician say that it may be something to do with the exhaust manifold which has also been reported on this forum.....

Picking mine up this evening, it's been in for the second time in 8 months with a noise at about 3k rpm. It was the manifold last time but sounded slightly different this time, i'll let you know what the monkey tells me when i pick it up!!
