get yourself something like a L or L reg Citroen AX diesel - cheap insurance, cheap fuel until you get a years no claims PLUS you get to hang onto most of your 1500 quid for your CC! And when ya mates laugh at you, tell them it's only for a year until you get ya CC
And all the whilte you're not spending a packet on insurance, that's more going into your CC deposit piggy bank.
(Wise words, now why didn't I do that when I was 17?)

depending on your financial situation you could look at a new car such as a 106 or Saxo with 1yrs free insurance - check their age conditions as they often change them.
apart from my 1st car when at college, i got a new 106 in august 94 when i was 19 and got the 1yrs free insurance. even although i had 1yrs ncd at the time, insurance was still high so it was a good saving.
and don't worry about when the insurance is up, trade it in for another new one then do the same the following year and barring no accidents you build up a decent ncd
when i got my 106 i borrowed £4k, putting down a deposit for £2.3k. it was around £127 per month over 3 years and for that you had a brand new car. not a CC but a good car just the same. it will probably be a bit cheaper now as prices are more or less the same but interest rates are lower.
good luck !
