Air Con question

Hi all,
I know this may be a daft question, but does anyone know if you can change the default setting of A/C to Eco on the heating / AC controls?
I'm getting fed up of changing it to Eco, as I never use the AC in the winter! I'm not sure if the heating system is inteligent enough to be programmed...

A/C is probably the default setting because the windows tend to steam up without it.

Another daft question maybe, but does it matter when it's cold what the setting is? If it's cold enough not to need the air con to reduce the temperature, what's the difference between A/C and Eco?
I'm sure I read about it in the manual when I first got the car but it didn't really make it very clear what Eco did.
Cheers

Air conditioning conditions the air ;-)
Conditioning the air includes not only cooling it but dehumidifying it. Turning a/c off and switching to ECO also turns the dehumidifier off. Stick a couple of people in your car on a cold, damp (rainy even) day and watch those windows mist up.

Yes.
Any electrical system will cause fuel consumption to drop. Driving with headlights on uses more fuel. Driving with the radio on uses more fuel.
A/C uses quite a bit when it's actively cooling the air. Even when it's not cooling though it is still using power and, therefore, fuel.

if you look at the pulleys system in the engine, on eco or off one of these dont turn (the AC system), if A/C on then it turns regardless what temp is set... so i guess the anwer is yes. I always have it on anyway, (does it really have that much of a different [in fuel, not counting performance]?)But leaving the Air Con on consumes more fuel??
Yes / No?

The climate control adjusts the airflow to keep the temperature uniform.
You can override the auto settings by pressing various buttons, one of which is the airflow direction (the one with all the arrows on it).
