ECO mode runs the climate control without using the compressor. The only difference you'll probably see in winter is that moisture isn't removed from the air and your windows will mist up more easily. In summer, you won't get the cold air pumped through.

Hi
there are two different ECO modes, as I think you already know... the ECO on the climate control is basically air con off mode, its there so that you dont try and cool the world by having the air con on when the roof is down.
The economy mode that you describe after you have used the radio / cd with the engine off is there to protect your battery from over discharge, I suppose people may have switched on the radio and then left the car and flattened their batteries.
I looked into this when using the wifes cc and seeing it come up after I had been waiting around in a car park, I thought maybe it was something that would slow the car down or maybe more interestingly that there might be a "Ozone depletion mode" that would turn the cc into a fire (and particulate) breathing dragon and make it faster.... but alas its just to do with the battery!
Might be fun though to start an urban myth about F1 mode or the like and post a set of instructions of how to obtain it by pushing various buttons in a specific order whilst driving with the roof half down or somthing!!!
