point taken

you could always use 32 credit cards at the same time  and save yourself any payments for 2 months while the bill(s) arrive

But if you have a credit card through your bank then you can always ask the bank to arrange a special one off limit for the day you ned to pay for the car. You could always have the money ready to pay them, it wont save you money but it will give you the protection that you may need.

Pay by debit card if the moneys in your account your sorted.

If you have the right type of mortgage this is the cheapest way of financing. Mortgage with a current account/loan/ deposit account attached such as Woolich/Barclays Open Plan or Virgin One.

You get credit at Mortgage rate ie around 5% rather then about 9% for cheapest unsecured loan. You can also be flexible about how you pay it off. Be as slow or as quick as you like. Although if you can you could exploit 0% creditcard offers to reduce interest even further.

Alternative just be filth rich so no need for credit. A rich spouse, lover or parent will also help

To get the protection offered by using a credit card as Rob suggested, you don't have to pay the whole lot on it outright - I just paid a £500 deposit and that secured me :) The rest was paid by mix of cash, mortgage and bank loan actually, robbery - as in the bank robbed me

My dealer - Charters of Camberley, were happy with £500 deposit on credit card. They wouldn't have been that thrilled paying their 2.5% fee to the credit card company on the whole balance - (despite me having the credit limit available).

I paid cash, which didn't even get me any more than 5% discount they were offering anyway. I did get a good deal on protection pack and windstop)

Dealers are more interested in finance than cash these days - they get commission...
