Now I don't know if this is just me thinking this but if i'm honest the only reason I bought the 206cc was for a change of image. I feel its very true about how other people perceive you by what car you drive.
Turning 30 (a young 30) I decided to lose some weight, wear the right clothes and look good but unfortunately had an old Rover 200 sitting on the drive (Not much of a Head Turner). I'd noticed other 206cc's on the road and really liked them but was horrified when I found out how much they cost. I just couldn't work out how I was gonna afford one. In the end I opted to finance one on the Peugeot Passport. Hope I did the right thing. I am now limited to 6,000 miles per year and apart from the first service I have to pay extra for the rest. After 3 years depending if the car is in good condition and hasn't done over 18,000 miles I can use this car as a deposit against a new one or pay them a final figure of £7,000.

What are your opinions on Peugeot Passport (Good or bad)?

Best wishes Annie

peugeot passport is ideal if you are restricted financially and can't buy a car outright. it allows you to buy a more expensive car without needing to find £x right at the very start.

i always used to opt for the traditional hp where i put down a deposit and paid the rest over 2 or 3 years. it was only when i bought my 306 in feb 98 paying it over 2 years that i was able to pay it off and actually own the car as i never kept the previous 3 pugs long enough :D

the only thing wrong with passport is that the final payment is quite low normally meaning it you give the car back you have paid a lot for it and if you keep it you still have quite a lot to pay.

it also restricts your mileage a lot too meaning its no good to me as i do nearly 20k in one year but if you dont do high mileage then it isnt a factor.

I know im not keeping my CC more than 3 years ... I got itchy feet with the last one at 2 years ... was gonna keep that 3 :). Thing with the CC being a great car and all that .. but it has problems .. like leaking roofs .. and I think after the warranty has expired its gonna cost £££££.

A few years ago I bought a 106 on Passport and at the time it was ideal for me as it enabled me to have a new car with low monthly payments - or so I thought!

However, when I decided to move onto a 206 before the three years were up I had a nightmare! Firstly the garage would not take the car off me as they said that it belonged to the finance company and then I had to arrange for it to be collected at my expense (although I argued over this and did not pay) for them to pick it up and take it to auction.

It was a total nightmare and 6k was just not enough!! Although I had only gone a couple of hundred miles over they tried to charge me, although again I argued and got out of it.

Initially it seemed like a fnatastic idea but I personally would never do this ever again and now get bank loans at a much lower APR which also means that after the three years the car is ALL MINE with no hefty final payment.

The main thing is though that you now have a great car!!

yikes... when i was getting rid of my 206 on passport early they dealer was gagging for it .... it was a) in good condition, b) had 8000 miles on it... i just paid it off in the end as it was worth more than the passport buy back price or whatever its called. So now I have 2 206's on the drive. One convertable of course :D

Actually, to be pedantic, the car's yours as soon as it's delivered to you. I financed mine with a loan this time as well. No final payment, no hassles with being able to sell it, and no risk of reposession if I decide to stop paying. :P

the car might be yours when you buy it but if you have used a loan it doesn't feel that way. as i mentioned earlier, the 306 i bought in feb 98 was mine for 3 months as i paid it over 24 months and owned it for 27 months (a record for me by far  )

there and then i decided not to borrow for a car again as it was a false way of living plus i bought a house so didn't want to spending loads every month between a mortgage and car payments.

Interesting topic. My feelings are:
1) Finance companies, including Peugeot Passport, are in business to make money. At the end of the 3 years, they are taking a gamble as to how much the car will be worth. You could pay the £7000 and sell it for more privately.
2) 6000 miles per annum isn't much - 16.44 miles per day. Wait till the rain and snow stops - you'll want to drive further than Redditch or Coventry!!!!
3) You don't have to borrow all the money - in effect you are borrowing £7,000 less therefore reducing monthly payments. I'm sure there was a Which :?: report published earlier this year comparing the cost of paying by cash, hire purchase or personal leasing.

At the end of the day, you're getting a sexy new car (to match your sexy new image 8) ) and you're keeping in your budget.

I'm afraid this is the accountant in me talking
What is an accountant doing driving a 206cc ??

Got loads of equity in my house being an "Old Bugger" so put mine on me mortgage. I know its a very expensive way of doing it but the extra it costs me a month ended up exactly the same amount as my pay rise last year! So CC on the drive and kept hubbies Saxo and no worse off!!!!! Woo hoo.

buy it using your credit card.

This not only gives you extra protection in case of faults etc but also means that at the moment with all these 6 months interest free deals on balance transfers you dont have to pay for it for potentially 18 months, that is if you only have 4 cards - if you have more then you can save more.

You just put the money away each month that you would have paid on a loan and then you will perhaps only have to have an 18 (or less) month loan and save loads on interest. Then you can afford to swap your car sooner for a newer one :)

These tricks do work as my personal banking manager rings me for these tips and now also uses them to buy large items more cheaply :) :)
