When picking up my new import recently I was told by the dealership that they'd swap the casette player for a CD player. This was duly done and I picked up the car without trying the CD player out.

I have since noticed when its dark that the interior dials and switches all light up in a soft amber except that bl***y CD player with only a GREEN display, the difference in lighting is doing me head in! :(

I have since found an identical CD player in Halfords that can be bought in either green or amber display coloursl! or slightly dearer one with 6 change of colours.

I'm annoyed cos I felt the dealer was thoughtless in not considering whether the CD's green display would match the rest of the amber dials and switches, especially as it can be bought with the right coloured display.

Was thinkin maybe of buying the Halfords CD player with amber display but askin the dealer to swap CD players round free of charge.

Am I being unreasonable??

Seems to me to be a more than reasonable approach. I'd probably approach the dealer on the basis that they've made an honest mistake and take it from there.

Not to be hard on you Robbie, but don't you think you're being a bit picky?

I'm sure the dealer will change it out of courtsey though.

Thanks guys for the input, I am picky an I suppose the dealer may well highlight that, but I suppose because I wouldn't make such an obvious asthetic mistake if I was either fitting my own CD or selling SLK's, I don't really expect the dealers to.

I'll give em a ring though an see what they can do.

Rang the dealer an spoke to the owner who doesn't mind swapping the new CD player over (though he says its so easy popping it in an out with a small tool Halfords might do it for me - huh they want £38 to go near it so I'll be popping back to the dealers).

Still a might annoyed cos I'll have a spare unwanted pioneer CD player
with green display, suppose I'll have to put it in the for sale section.

I am not suggesting that you do this, but you could in theory....

buy the new green/amber CD from Halfords if its the same model and then take back just the green one in the same box saying you want a refund as it isnt dual colour as it says on the box. PAY CASh so that you cant be traced afterwards. Do it at a busy time and they are less likely to query it.

NOTE
This is just a theroetical thing and I wouldnt encourage anyone to do such a low tick.

As ex-halfords store manager.
I have my fingers in my ears and hands over my eyes!
They will prob test it and make sure it works, its unlikely they'll notice the difference in colour.

Well I popped into a nameless Halfords store this morning and honestly explained the whole sorry situation to the spotty young man behind the counter, he said no problem, he'll exchange the CD player an took another out to my car. I suggested he just simply exchanged my green front facia for the amber one instead of the whole thing. He did and put the green facia back in the box, so I suppose someone else is gonna get a green facia instead of an amber one (hope its not for christmas).

I was happy as larry, the whole SLK facia illuminates amber including the CD player, so I gave him £20 for his trouble.

Ta. I noticed the spotty shop assistant asked me to fill in a returns form but had a change of heart when he looked at the green CD facia he placed back in the amber facia box an said "na, lets forget that idea". Me hopes he won't be showing his manageress how to earn a quick £20! Either that or a). they'll all be doing it b). he'll be looking for a new job after Christmas.
