Ok - I know this has been covered before, but I ran a couple of searches and couldn't find anything conclusive....

Coming out of a multi storey on Saturday, came off the gas and the revs dropped like a stone and the engine stalled. I managed to bump start it straight away by lifting the clutch but as soon as I came off the gas again, the same thing happened.

The car park had a helter skelter style exit ramp, so I had to drive down the bl**dy thing with no power assistance and someone right behind me meaning I couldn't blag another bump start.

At the bottom of the ramp I pulled into one of the "Ooops I forgot to pay at the machine" spaces and whacked the hazards on. I started the engine another couple of times, but each time when I came off the gas the revs just dived straight to zero - engine stalled. The third time I started it, when I came off the gas, the revs just settled quite slowly back to 800 and the engine was fine....and has been since.

Anyone out there had engine cut-outs successfully dealt with by a dealer?
Is it worth asking them to upload the latest software or will they just laugh?

P.S. It is a pre-multiplex 2.0

Yep NX - exactly same happened to me but I was doing about 60mph when it happened on a dark single lane country road with about 5 cars behind me.
VERY scary and VERY annoying.
I went into my pug dealer who said the earliest they could look at it was 10 days time and when I mentioned this could be dangerous and I was concerned if it happened again they replied with
"You have AA Assistance don't you... use that!"

I then didnt bother booking it in as I was mad by their reply!

I should really but dont trust the monkeys.
Mine is a pre multiplex 2.0 too.

same thing happened to mine too :(

about this time last year  then after that i had trouble starting for about a month then the monkeys finally found out that the battery terminal was badly corroded plus they said they had downloaded some software for something or other, so check your battery terminals you never know ?????

Cheers

If its the same issue. Then try this.

Turn off all power to the car. Turn key to first position and allow temp gauge needle to rise. Start up engine and allow the temerature gauge to lower and drive! If the rev counter is lower than 500rpm then worry. Possibly best to do this when the car is not in motion.

I have always gone through this before using my car. It might be a load of rubbish, but said problem only ever happened to me when I was not patient enough to wait and perform said proceedure. I guess it is some form of software setup built in to the engine management system.
