My moms CC is making a nasty squeaking noise when braking hard, it doesn't do it when you just touch the brakes when driving in traffic etc.

Is it worth getting this problem checked out? It's really annoying her now!!

Cheers everyone!

This appears to be very common. I am told by the dealership that it's due to the new compound thay use in the pads, they no longer use aspestos.

Mine have been squeeking for months, the dealer deglazes them for me every time i go in and the effects of this can be different. Sometimes it solves the problem for a day sometimes a few weeks.

As mine are still squeeking i am going to demand new brakes.

Get them checked ASAP as the dealers think they can use the amount of miles you have done as an excuse not to do anything, or do very little

I would get straight down there and demand new brakes. They shouldn't squeek so you shouldn't have to put up with it! They can't say there isn't a fault if they are that new.

I spoke to a friend last week who works for a garage who service peugeot's on behalf of a local dealership and he reckons that 1 in 10 will squeek.

True or not i don't know!!

more that 1 in 10 defo. its the brake dust that makes it squeek, try buying EBC pads. they are a harder compound and reduce dust.

Yep, try getting EBC brakes if you want to warp your discs

The best way to cure it is (a) proper bedding in procedure, (b) plenty of copper grease on the back of the pads when fitting, (c) slotted discs.

it's because the pad is glazing .... the only 100% way to stop this happening is to use groved disks. The grove is their to knock the glaze from the pad.
Most cars without groved disk (not vented thats for heas dissipitation) squeak at some point.

actually mine sometimes clunks when i first set off in reverse, is that what happens to you ?? Ive asked them to look at it anyway .. the clunk, the squeeks ... the switch in the boot ... the switch on the dash (the one they cant fix after 7 visits - yes seven visits, for the same fault.

Went to me dealer yesterday and said about my squeeky brakes and also about changing the oil every year, I was told by the dealer that because the brakes cannot be made anymore out of asbestos that the brakes pad are made out of a metal compound and that is why they squeek I thought what a load of rubbish about pads made out of metal compound, the oil change is correct that it is changed every two years or 20,000 miles and not every year due to the oil is okay for that long.

That all sounds about right to me.

I'll still be changing my oil every 5k though, and hassling the dealer to find out how the 'research' on the brake pads is going.
