Hi..

Its 6am and I have been up since 4:30 to get into work early (dman late night code releases) so appologies for any spelling problems.

I have a 2 litre CC which has now done about 16,000 miles. About 7000 miles ago the oil looked low so i chucked a litre of oil into it. Last weekend i was bored of the oil level display thing showing low, so i had a look at the dipstick and i was nearly empty so had to chuck 1.5 litres in. There are no obvious leaks anywhere...is this normal????? :?:

Please take into consideration that I am known to drive like vin diesel regularly.

Ta

Steve

My oil indicator on the dash always shows low. It tests normal on the dip-stick though.

Quite un-nerving. But the only thing that really does concern me about oil is some smoke that I occasionally see from the exhaust.

Hi guys 'n gals-me too-HELP-My CC is a 1.6,only 4 weeks old and has done 700 miles, but as the previous post said,my oil level indicator often shows intermittantly two bars down from max when I know the level on the dipstick is on max. Also,it intermittantly displays all bars as an underscore type dash and flashes for 5 seconds---any ideas what the flashing bars are all about chaps? P.S-great car,but why the hell did I buy a convertible in December? Hope I survive the winter and get that roof down

The flashing bars mean that you are out of OIL...the oil level sensor is a bit crap on the pug. If you park on a slight incline it reads too low.

My sensor was right though - the oil was low in my car.

Haven't had a smoking exhaust.......................yet!

Another problem I have is a vibration noise from my engine - sounds like plastic vibrating or metal rattling - any ideas people???

sounds like the silver plastic engine cover needs sorting out like most gti's/SE's which use the 2.0 litre, more info about this on this forum :D

Not necessarily the cover. On the 2.0l engine, it's also quite likely to be a split manifold.

at 12k miles my oil level was fine - until i burst the sump and ended up with none

i checked manually too as the digital guage is too erratic and it "was" fine.

on the subject, what do ppl pay for oil ? i got semi synthetic from pug for about £12 +VAT or so but didn't shop around as I just got it with the parts to get the car repaired. not that i'll need it for a while now but i can get castrol magnatec fully synthetic - £19.74 for 4.5L - is that cheap or not ?

Pug told me to use Esso oil and I can't remember exactly how much - over £20 but less than £30! Well, I *AM* a girl :)

Split manifold....arghhh...not good!

My car is due its first service in 2000 miles (should take me about a month to do this). I might wait till then..

I have changed the back box on my car to a devil....are puegeot likely to void my warrenty ( I can't speel :-) ) because of this?

I will have a look at the engine cover and see if it is loose.

Thanks for the help....you are all quality geezers/geezeresses as usual.

I took my Agean beauty to Peugeot main dealer yesterday to get them to take a look at the oil level dash display(see my previous post).According to the chief technician there, this is a common problem and as of now Peugeot are unable to rectify this,BUT,there is GOOD NEWS for all you paranoid gauge watchers-Peugeot WILL be making a modification to the gauge, available free of charge,in Jan 2003 sometime-I wait eagerly  ....Also, finally got them to call Pug UK tech desk and they now know how to disable the BSI so I can fit my lovely Kenny Mask stereo.....yipeeeeeee...ish,erm,sort of mate,err...the permanant live stays live -yipppeeee,BUT the switched one livens up when you open the door(even with no keys in ignition)and goes off about 1 min after alarming the car on exit! Umm-best run a wire to the unswitched positive side of the glovebox light which is active when the key is in the accessory position_SORTED :) Happy Puggin'

But it's even better to run the wire to the cigarette lighter. Not only is it easier to get to, but the ciggy lighter wire will take a higher load than the glovebox light (which looks like 5A max, if that).

There is a shortage of manifolds  , so it would be worth checking with the garage whether it needs one or not in advance of the service. It is covered under the warranty though . :D
