Well spoke to Julia and Derek about this car, I've finally joined the import club.
Got withdrawal symptoms waiting for a 2004 230 SLK so until then I've bought a black SLK 200 (2.0L) from a dealership importing cars, its currently in Belgium but its built and ready for shipment immediately. I will be able to pick it up next week. Cost is £22,999 without leather seats though.
Current UK dealership price is from £2508 (without leather) with 6 month wait, and I think some importers charge around £21/22K with 6 month wait.
I've compromised in the hope that come 2004
the import won't have lost too much, if any value.
Unfortunately my UK dealer holds a 2K deposit so I'll have to buy my 2004 through them.

Now the hard bit , Insurance. I was quoted £957 pounds
by my insurance , Direct Line, to insure the SLK which seemed a REDICULOUS amount given that I'm 37 with only 1 sp30 3 point fine 3 years ago. They even insisted I pay to fit and run a tracker device
I remember someone mentioning Elephant.co.uk on the forum? I gave them a ring an they quoted £702 pounds (£255 saving! -WOW) plus no need for a tracker device!
I even managed to protect my no claims bonus for an additional £100 an still saved £155!
Just goes to show how useful it is to shop around instead of sticking with the same insurance co.

Cheers Derek! Seems the Forums going through another quiet twilight zone phase.
This black SLK was a bit of an impulse buy so I'm quite excited to pick it up next week. Unfortunately that Fiesta I bought off of AlexLS the other day as a runabout has to go
so its going to my mum in Devon, I'm sure she will appreciate it as soon as I can muster the strength to drive it down.
I'll ask if Lyndon doesn't mind posting a picture of the SLK somewhere on the forum next week.
