Wifey has just phoned Direct Line (her current insurer) and they'll do it for £530 which sounds a lot better.

Only trouble is they won't cover us for the bit of the trip from the dealer in Calais to the UK. So near yet so far -- the dealer's only 7km outside Calais :(

I guess I'll either have to get them to bring it to the tunnel terminal, or arrange short-term insurance through a local company.
