The meeting at the dealership this morning went as well as can be expected ......
My CC SE was 79 days old and had covered just over 2700 miles, plus another 1800 miles in courtesy cars. It had a water leak that was repairable - only problem was no one knew how to !
As the General Manager of the dealership has only recently took over and is attempting to clear up it's image with customer service, he was keen to come to a solution.
As I didn't want my CC, I was offered ...
* a replacement with similar mileage and same spec. as i would be the 2nd owner, this was rejected outright.
* a new replacement was offered if i paid £600 and used the Rover 45 courtesy car until it arrived. this was considered to be unacceptable and was rejected.
* as he got fustrated a full refund cheque was offered on the spot if i handed over the keys to the courtesy car and walked away. as i was 25 miles from home, about to need to a hire a car until i managed to get another one at probably great expense this was considered then put on hold but not rejected.
* i was then given a final offer of a new replacement plus Rover 45 courtesy car for £400. this was used to negotiate my eventual deal - see below ....
* i get a new replacement same spec as before and same extra's fitted. courtesy car will be changed next week to a P307 2.0GLX. waiting time will be 12 weeks but they will try and get it quicker. if a replacement causes problems then a full refund will be given - for £300.
* this was rejected by the dealer unless i paid £350. this was rejected by myself and it was either £300 or i walk away with a full refund and spread the negative side of the dealer to many people throughout some of their key trading areas. £300 was agreed to if i recommended them instead - this was agreed.
so although i never got the straight replacement as i was looking and holding out for (would never be agreed to) i consider to have negotiated a pretty good deal.
what do others think ?

At least you are still keen on owning a CC, well done and good outcome. Though someone is bound to come on and say "i got this and i got that!" blah blah blah.
Sometimes it not just the monetry value of it all, its the stress and crap you get put though. At least it's sorted out now...well kinda??!!
Hope the replacement is problem free

He Derek, well done and strange that I only paid £300 to swap as well.
luckilly I got to keep mt car until 2 weeks before. But that was only coz I wanted lots of twiddly bits doing to the new one
i.e. stereo from old one Gt bumper from old one etc
Still a bargain £300 for 12 months motoring and 10,ooo miles
Glad you aint gone off and bought a golf like some people

thanks for all the replies, i'm happy now
rob,
the £300 was only because i wouldn't give up
pauline,
the condition was that i got a different courtesy car - i pick up a P307 2.0GLX on wednesday to use while i wait on the replacement.
obi,
the extras are the same as what was fitted to the original car of aluminium mesh grille and wheel arch extensions.
everyone else,
thanks for the support.
