It's a sunny Sunday morning and before going out I made the mistake of stopping the roof midway through opening it. :? The weight of the window eventually made it descend into the boot by itself. Since then the automatic operation hasn't worked.

I've taken it through the manual operation for closing the roof and it's now closed again but I can't get the boot to clamp shut properly, so the car beeps above 10mph and the auto mechanism still won't work.

Any ideas? I'd rather sort it out myself, if I can.

I think the problem is with the final locking mechanism and the white clips (indicated on page 94 of the manual). There are two latches near each of the clips. The big ones seem to be OK but I can't get the little ones to close and lock down the boot lid.

What do the white clips do and what position should they be in when I operate the roof either manually or automatically?

Vince.

I had the same problem...
I manually opened the clips in the boot, and pushed the back down. Problem is that it doesn't lock down. What you need to do is get two people to push down on the boot flap, above the locking points, so the car thinks that the back is locked down.
Press the roof button to lower the roof, and let the car start moving the roof itself. This worked for me, and put the roof back in the boot.
Then just raise the roof again, and lock it into place....
Sorted! :)

...The white U clips appear to lock the boot lid down when they are in the lower prosition and to allow it to open when they are in the upper position. Either way, when I operate the roof button I hear the electric motor sounding like it's operating normally but nothing moves.

Took it into Charters of Camberley this morning and they just held up their hands and said "too busy", so I'll try Basingstoke tomorrow. It's almost due for it's 20,000 mile service so I'll see if I can combine the two.

Meanwhile, the CD is turnud up high to cover the constant alarm noise.

Hi Craig,
Looks like we posted simultaneously! I've been thinking the solution might be something along those lines, i.e. 'forcing' the car to think it's roof is in position, but I was loathe to allpy too much force.

I'll give it a go this evening.

Did you re-tension the white bolt thing in the boot... (the one you have to use the allen key with).

If you don't tighten this up, the motor whirrs for a few seconds, and then the alarm beeps like it does when the blind is not accross.

When I had the problem, I took mine over to Wokingham Motors, and they were 'too busy' too... hence the reason I fixed it myself.

Oh Bum!

I'd forgotten about that! Well, it did cross my mind while I was in Southampton (in a Renault Scenic) in the afternoon but forgotten it again before I got home.

Something else to try tonight...

Tightened up the thing I untightened with the Allen key and the mechanism worked again and locked the boot lid down properly. Couldn't get it to open again for ages though, until I remembered to reposition the two little white U-clips back to the upper position.

Suddenly life is worth lining again. :P
