On the 12th January I pick my car up from Peugeot and every since when the car ticks over when its warm it makes a knocking noise can anyone tell me if this is normal ( I own a 1.6 s 206cc).

I have Booked the car into the dealer on wednesday to look at the Auto Volume feature and also of course the Knocking noise.

Peter,

No, this isn't normal. There are quite a few things wrong with my 1.6 (currently being "fixed" by the dealer) but it doesn't make a knocking noise - in fact it's one of the quietest engines I've ever (not ;)) heard.

I'd take it in and get it looked at.

The only knocking noise I ever get is from my mate with a Subaru Impreza.

it could be the plastic cover on the engine. But these usually take a few months before they make a noise.

I'm sure you're right, though he says the same when I call his car an over-powered Cortina.

I'm not sure I want to read about people's woes here anymore though. My CC make's an awful row at 3,000 rpm since I read about it on this forum. Also, the petrol nozzle at my local garage - which was never an issue before - has been a pig since I read that others were having problems with them.

The noise at 3,000 rpm is likely to be the plastic engine cover as Rob says - same happens on 206GTi according to the service manager who knew immediately what it was.

Mine has been in once to have it "padded" to stop it vibrating but it didn't work - going back in again next Monday.

Hi,

I know someone who's got the GTI and they've had the same problem with the plastic engine cover.

So it must be something that is quite common, as their dealer guessed what it was over the phone.

Its been fixed and as far as I know they've had no problems since.
