Hi

I have had my black 206CC a couple of months, I have noticed there are a lot of swirls and very light scratches in the paint.

Spoke to my neighbour about this and he reckons this is normal but really shows up on black cars in sunlight esp after being washed.

I have noticed this on older card but always thought it was down to prev owners putting the car through car washes.

My neighbour has reckoned a diamond bright treatment should clear the swirls and protect it in the future.

What does anyone think?

Regards

well the truth is....

Its not just car washes that put the swirls there!!!!

When you wash the car.....EVERYTIME use a new sponge!!!

NEVER move the sponge in circular motions.....always wash in straight lines

And yes diamond briting or tough guarding (which i have had done) removes the small scratches and protects the paint work but some will not always be removed

Sam1974,

We have a black CC and had a dark blue metallic Corsa before - I also noticed swirls which were not there when you finished polishing the car, but gradually appeared as the car became dirty.

Erm correctly says that grit on your sponge or even your polishing cloth will lightly scratch the paintwork. Always sponge wash gently, (I always wash the cills, wheels and lower regions last), and apply/remove polish gently with a soft cloth. Be careful if you drop them on the ground!

I use Autoglym and found that the 'wax off' cloth, (Karate Kid?!), after a while was getting saturated with polish residue and was not removing it fully. Now I change or wash the 'wax off' cloth more often and we don't have swirls ...... (just white paint spots courtesy of Camden Peugeot of Bedford!).

this backs up what I was saying in a post about a year ago, use a quality cloth. The cheaper cloths that look the same scratch your paintwork.

Buy the Autoglym cloth. Also while using it to polish off turn in inside out and/or use different areas of it. Use a couple of cloths, its cheaper than respraying you car

I always used 2 good leathers, one to wash and one to dry which I changed once a year or if they fell to the ground. I always took care to ensure there was no grit in the bucket before commencing to wash (you can be surprised at what comes out of those hot water taps). Call me paranoid, but Luckily though I had black paintwork, I had no swirls or scratches.

Latterly I took the car to a hand wash but scrutinsed what equipment they were using (steam cleaner etc).

Hi Paul

Best way to remove insect debris depends on what surface they are baked on to. here's some general advice

On paintwork - you can try a hardsurface cleaner applied with a soft sponge BUT don't leave it to dwell and wash off thoroughly. I know our hs cleaner is absolutely fine for this but have never tried one from Autoglym etc at this. Option 2 is to use a polish with some cut to effectively polish then out.

On plastic - best way is a heavy duty dressing applied with a cloth.

On chrome / metal - a polish is as good as anything. Make sure it is not very abrasive or you will end up with scratches!

Sorry to be general - if you want to give me more info then we can be much more specific. Hope this helps you
