The mechanic at my dealer just pushed the white cord & toggle all the way in. He said if I wanted to get at it just undo the clip holding the black plastic in place and retrieve it. This way there is no chance of it getting stuck when the roof is operated.

The first time I heard it, I cringed and almost sold the car there and then (I was in a bad mood that day). After my ranting and raving the dealer simply pushed the cord & toggle back in and made me feel like an idiot. "Gee thanks" I said. Perhaps they should have told me about it before I rode out into the big blue yonder on that very first day. :x
