Hi,
About 6 months back I gave my pug a small service.
Oil & filter/air and pollen filter (the usual stuff)
When I went to change the air filter I was pleasantly surprised to find a K&N filter fitted by the previous owner inside the original air box casing.
I gave it a clean and re oiled it, and off I went enjoying the car.
I have however always noticed that the engine note always sounds a bit harsh for my liking.
Over 2.5k rpm the engine sounds (to me) very aggressive and harsh and, it could get quite tiresome on a long journey.
Today I replaced the K&N with a standard filter.
The first thing I noticed was how much thicker the standard filter was and that it fitted alot tighter inside the air box.
On trying it out the little Peugeot now sounds like a different car.
It's alot more refined sound wise, and not sounding like an angry Jack Russell anymore.
Performance wise I would say it actually feels a little better.
It maybe because I now don't mind revving it up now to it's sweet spot without the engine sounding like it's so angry.
So overall I think a little reverse engineering and keeping it standard is often the way to go.
Kind Regards,
Johnny
