MAP sensors...

Post by Slinky »

Hi

Has anyone had any trouble with MAP sensors before ?

I was having problems with the car and replaced the MAP sensor with an aftermarket part, the car runs fine but pops the EML light every so often.

I've just bought a genuine Bosch part thinking it would cure the EML light but now the car will hardly run, the car over revs when you stop.

Thanks

What was the problem exactly? Did the ECU detect an issue with the MAP sensor? Error P0108?

To address this issue, you can check the following items in this order:

Check installation and wiring: First, ensure the new sensor plug is securely connected and the sealing ring (O-ring) is properly installed to prevent air leaks. An air leak would send an incorrect signal to the ECU, causing the idle speed to rise. Also, inspect the pins inside the connector for any bending or oxidation.

Reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery: After replacing the sensor, it is best to let the ECU relearn the parameters. Disconnect the negative battery terminal for a few minutes, reconnect it, and then let the engine idle for a while so the computer can adapt to the data from the new sensor.

Verify the part number: Bosch sensors come in various models, so it is best to check the part number on the new sensor (e.g., 0261230043 or 0261230344) to ensure it is a perfect match for your 1.6L engine.

If the issue persists after trying the three steps above, I recommend using an OBD diagnostic tool to read the fault codes. This will help determine if there are problems with other components—such as the throttle position sensor or oxygen sensor—in addition to the MAP sensor.
