Hi guys, hope you can help. 2002 - 206cc - 1.4L
I was driving and the speedo stopped, car cut out at low revs, and no reverse lights ... all good it was just the #1 - 10a fuse had blown in the engine fuse box.
I replaced it and speedo / cutting out reverse lights all go again BUT now there is a really loud clanking noise coming from somewhere around the back-center of the engine, I can feel a heavy vibrate in the gearstick. If I remove the fuse it goes away / stops whatever motor/gear/system is causing the loud noise.
My manual just says the fuse is for speed sensor and reverse lights switch ... what else is this fuse used for!? The car ran fine before the fuse blew.
Thanks in advance

It sounds like the reversing light switch has come adrift, causing the clanking, and the insulation is defective, blowing the fuse.

I looked again tonight, disconnected the reverse light switch and still clanking. That switch connects to the speed sensor right? Can a faulty speed sensor make a lot of noise?

Is this while driving or stationary? BTW it won't be a 1.4 206cc
Cheers Col.

Sorry it's an Xr 1.4
It's happening when stationary and moving.

Sounds like starter motor staying engaged
Cheers Col.

Hmm I can still start the car without the fuse in, so I would imagine the starter motor wouldn't fire if it was that.
Or I could be wrong about that?
