I'm becoming increasingly concerned at the amount of deposit being left on my exhaust, is it just me that is seeing this ? For example, I washed the car yesterday, did a 100mile round trip and the exhaust was extremely blackened (VERY !) Now, I drive the car alot harder than perhaps it should be, but have oil changes every 5000 miles and now use fully synthetic oil (since 20K). A colleague who owns a much sportier car but drives his quite hard does not see this. Should I be concerned ?

Maybe it needs tuning?

Stuart, I wouldn't worry at all unless you see blue smoke or a dip in performance etc. My exhaust got extremely blackened round the rim etc in next to no time an it goes like a bomb. I put it down to the normal exhaust gas emmissions escaping especially when pushed hard and even at standstill in traffic. I've had this on lots of other cars. I thik Rob's Autoglymn products are probably needed.

Stuart,

I had a similar problem but on the underneath box, just before the end. I had a look one day at it was extremly black which I thought was strang sa the car is only 1 month old. However on closer inspection (after it had cooled!) I noticed that there is some kind of clear sticker that had been left on there and ist had basically melted. Removed it and gave it a wipe and problem solved. It's worth checking
