Roof catch pops open, can it be adjusted?

Post by starcar »

Hi

2002 1.6L S
Roof catch pops open slightly when (sometimes) I hit a bump in the road, just enough to catch my head on as I get out!
Had a quick look at it can't see any obvious adjustment.
Roof works fine and latch seems to have quite a positive clunk pulling it in to the front window.
Any ideas?

The spring may be fatigued and therefore weaker than designed.

The springs are not separately spared, and the latch assembly is:

8484 A4 (left)
8484 A5 (right)

Probably expensive, but you could try a breakers. The trouble with that is they may be equally fatigued.

If you open the catch, you will see a single screw that retains some plastic trim. If this screw is not fully tightened, the head will act as a stop for the over-centre catch operation. Make sure this screw has not been replaced by a longer one, or with an incorrect head height.

Thanks for your replies
I had checked the screw and its tight and flush.
Spotted replacements on eBay for £10 a pair, might get a couple and try and make a good one out of the three.

Thanks
