Good evening all.
After hours of serching and pulling my hair out I decided to join and ask to see if there is anything I missed.
Details..
2001 y reg 206cc 1.4 automatic
New battery
All functions seem to work
No cranking.
So when I turn the key I hear the relay clicking but no cranking (same as flat battery)
Replaced the battery and still no difference.
The car has been fine previous and stood for a few days after short trips (hence the new battery previous was flat)
Everything so far points to the starter motor. I have had a few experiences where I've gone to start the car and it's almost 'skipped a gear before trying again and working.
Before I go and buy a starter motor is there anything else I can try?
Sorry if I missed anything
Thank you
Matt b

Re: Not cranking
Hi Matt, I don't recognise your car. I have never heard of a 206cc with a 1.4 engine. Are you sure it is not a 3 door or 5 door hatchback? This forum is dedicated to the 206cc coupe-convertible.
That said, as you say, everything seems to point to the starter motor as the culprit. I assume you've checked all the leads and connections to the starter motor, battery and earth. You don't tell us the service history, mileage and type of use the car has had but at 16 years old and probably high mileage it wouldn't surprise me if the starter motor needs replacing.
Capncol has made the suggestion that the gearbox inhibitor could be at fault as the car is an automatic and will be designed not to start unless the engine is in park or neutral. I don't know how to test the inhibitor though, but it is worth checking before spending a lot of money on a new starter motor.

Re: Not cranking
Thanks for the reply I'm not with the car atm. And it's my partners car so may well be a 1.6 but it's defiantly a cc
The mileage is around 52k it's pretty low mileage for the age .
I will look into the gearbox thing as it sounds possible may also be the reason I've had it grind a few times? Is it easy to locate?
Thanks for your help so far
