Roof stuck down, PLEASE HELP
Hi, I'm a new Peugeot 206 cc owner. I bought this car used and was told there were no problems. The car was checked over by a mechanic and everything was fine.
Ok so this morning after I put the roof down, nothing was wrong, I didn't do anything but put the radio on straight after. The sun was heating up the seats and burning my back so I decided to put the roof back up. All of a sudden it's beeping at me and I'm so confused because I literally did nothing that could possibly annoy the sensor.
I tried over and over again to put the roof back up.
I put the windows up and put them back down, still beeping.
I turned the engine off, waited about a minute and tried again, still beeping.
I tried pulling the switch up just incase it didn't lock properly when I had started putting the roof up, and it started beeping and then tried pressing down on the switch again and it was still beeping.
I sat there and googled for at least an hour, and came across a video on how to put the roof back up manually. I started following the instructions thinking I was getting somewhere when it came to the part where I had to pull the cord in the boot to unlock the rear parcel shelf and was surprised to find that there's NO CORD in the boot :''( it must have been removed or something by the previous owner.
I don't know what to do, I feel like crying. I live in a not so nice neighbourhood and right now I'm sitting on my front steps watching my car. I can't sit here all day so I really really need help.

Re: Roof stuck down, PLEASE HELP
Assuming you have released the hydraulic pressure at the tap, if you look on the left hand side where the cord should be next to the three microswitches there is a piston inside the mechanism. With a long screw driver you should be able to push the ram that the piston would push out (mind your fingers) and then the shelf will be able to drop and you will be able to close it manually.
Failing that look at some of my recent posts, I have posted a neat little relay trick to close the roof electrically but manually.

Re: Roof stuck down, PLEASE HELP
hi. I have a similar problem, but mine is purely down to the parcel shelf. several people have posted here that it is easy to move manually, if the cord is missing, but I tried for several hours on sunday and had to stop before I broke the shelf. does anyone know the procedure for manually moving the parcel shelf so that I can manually lift the roof out. i'm not particularly worried if an actuator has gone, I just want to get the roof up so that I can uncover it and stop it filling with condensation and damp. instructions would be great, a picture or video would be brilliant.
thanks

Watch the roof video as it shows the ram that the cord lifts. Once you have worked that out it is a simple case of moving it by hand

If you look here at the drawing in Section 1-4, you will see the missing cord and what it should attach to. That should allow you to see what to move.

Re: Roof stuck down, PLEASE HELP
OK, I've done some research - cars after March 2003 do not have a pull-cord, and the shelf is released by poking the allen key into the vertical slot where the pull cord used to be.
The instructions are in the handbook of the later models. If you don't have a copy, go to http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ddb/, choose English, then 206cc, then a date band after Mar 2003, and find the instructions under "Practical Information".

Re: Roof stuck down, PLEASE HELP
hi again. ok, I give in, i'm stupid. I've read all your helpful hints and tips. I've looked at videos and drawings, and guess what? nothing!!!!!!!!!the last tip, regarding minute 1.18 minutes is the first time I've seen where the string goes behind the plate. but mine's a post march 2003, so no string. i'd already printed off the diagram of the parcel shelf, where it says hold parcel shelf in left hand, insert allen key all the way in, and then tilt the shelf. took the cover off, held the shelf, pushed the allen key in and, again, nothing. what am I supposed to be pushing or pulling with the key. the diagram shows the hole, and then in the middle of the hole there are 2 vertical lines, with the key going in there. I guess the 2 lines represent the 2 edges of the white plate where the string goes in, but then what. i'm going to try and see if I can get my endescope in there today, see if that helps. the biggest problem is with the roof sections still in the boot, space is limited. I never give up, but this is really trying my patience. any help would be gratefully appreciated.
thanks

Re: Roof stuck down, PLEASE HELP
Just checked the French and English versions of the instructions. The English says "Tilt the assembly downwards while supporting the shelf" and the French says (according to Google translate) "Flip the assembly down..." I'm guessing that this is a downwards movement of the key (as shown by the dotted arrow), possibly with a bit of rotation.
Does that help?
Does that help?

Re: Roof stuck down, PLEASE HELP
hi ianl. I,ll have a go at that tomorrow. I was reading it as tilt the shelf forward, but your interpretation makes more sense. thanks again for your help and patience.

Re: Roof stuck down, PLEASE HELP
hi, it's stupid again. after trying and trying to get the parcel shelf to move, after all your tips, I FINALLY sussed it. how simple; that's the solution and me. manually put the roof up, and guess what, another problem. before I had sussed the shelf, the last time i'd tried I hadn't locked the boot lid/cover down, but when I tried first thing this morning, I sussed that as well. sort the shelf out, go to close boot and lid, whilst watching the video from here, the 4.08min one, and after maybe 10 attemtps, the lid is still loose. leave it, go back an hour later, try again, same result. I follow all the instructions to where you reengage the lock so that it moves maybe 3-4 mil, close the boot, reopen to close the valve and move the clips, and the lid is loose again. as per my previous problem, no doubt It is incredibly simple. once again stupid needs help, please.
thanks. I hope the irony of my username is not lost on here.

Glad to hear you managed to get the roof up. Could you please describe how you succeeded in releasing the shelf, for the benefit of others?gadgetrescue wrote:hi, it's stupid again. after trying and trying to get the parcel shelf to move, after all your tips, I FINALLY sussed it. how simple.......
