Key programming

Post by bergkampmagic »

Hi
my wife has a peugeot 206cc which only came with the 1 key
i have managed to get a key cut online that opens the doors etc so i purchased a case , circuit board and a virgin ID46 transponder chip but what i need to know is how i go about programming the key to the car
ive read the following
CENTRAL DOOR LOCK with DEADLOCKING (2 BUTTON PLIP KEY)

1. Ensure all doors are unlocked using the key.

2. Press and HOLD the large plip key button while the LED flashes continuously for 20 seconds. After 20 seconds press the small deadlock button once while still holding the large button.

3. The LED will stop flashing.

4. Release the large button and the LED will light constantly.

5. Press the large button once and the LED will go out.

6. Open the door and hold the Plip key near the Ignition switch and press the large plip button once.

7. Turn the ignition ON, wait 10 seconds and then turn the ignition OFF.

8. After 5 seconds the Plip should now operate.

but ive also read that i need planet peugeot to register / programme the key

so now im unsure on what to do to get the key programmed to the car

any advice would be appriciated.

Thanks Jon

You need to use Peugeot Planet. That will add the unique module identifier to the list held in the BSI, which is necessary for the module to be obeyed. That will only work if the module is also virgin and is the right "flavour" for your car. A module previously programmed to a car cannot be repurposed to another car. There are four flavours, depending on age of vehicle, and whether it has front fogs (I kid you not). If you quote the last eight of your VIN, we can tell you which one you need.

To do the Planet programming, you need to use both keys (because the exercise overwrites the old list), and the four digit security code on the card supplied when the car was new. If you don't have it, you can get it from http://www.carkeycodes.co.uk. The programming will also program the new transponder.

The other procedure you quoted is to reset a key which has previously been programmed, but has lost contact with the BSI, probably because its battery ran out. Btw, it is the wrong procedure for the 206cc. For the correct procedure, go to http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ddb/, select English, car and date bracket, and find it in the handbook ("keys" in the index).

Thanks for the information
now im confused
with planet programming how does that work ?
i thought that was just a diagnostic software that used with your laptop via OBD-II connector to get fault codes and clear them how would you use it to program keys ?
and is this the right software Diagbox V5.29, the best version for all Lexia 3 Chinese clone interfaces
if not could you recommend what to get to programme the keys
thanks for your time to reply

Peugeot Planet 2000 offers far more than just diagnostics. It enables the user to program configurable parts, such as keyfobs, as well as configuring the BSI for the options fitted to the particular car, e.g. rain sensor. It is all fairly obvious from the menu structure.

Diagbox is an alternative to Planet for later cars. It incorporates Planet for use with the earlier cars, but some people say that version of Planet is cut-down, so, for your car, it is better to install Planet by itself. The clones usually come with software for both Diagbox and stand-alone Planet. You cannot install both on the same PC.

Planet (both versions) must be hosted on a 32-bit operating system - XP SP3 is best. If your PC is 64-bit, the work-around is to install VMWare Player (free for non-commercial use). Then create a Win XP 32-bit virtual machine under that, and then install Planet into the VM. VMWare Player will guide you through that - it's very good. You will need a copy of XP with the key.

Important tips: Do not plug the Lexia hardware into the PC until prompted during the Planet install, and do not allow Planet to update on-line when it asks.

Car key codes: The first service is just to provide Peugeot part numbers for your car - if you ever need that, you can get it for nothing from the Peugeot Service Box. The second, at £22.99, is for the security key, which you need to program the keyfob.
