New owner locking wheel nut probs

Post by Andywilson »

Hi I've bought my gf a 56 plate 206 cc for her 50th now the garage that sold it said it needs couple tyres so priced accordingly I took it for 2 new tyres but the fitter said the wheel nut key is worn and can't remove the wheels I went to the dealer and they quoted me 79 quid and 2 weeks wait. Does any one know where I can order a one cheaper or if anyone has one lying around they would like to sell E N6S6 is the number on it. I can be text on 07984189819 cheers any help greatly appreciated

In your situation, I would give lockingwheelnutsremoved.com a call, and see what they say. I can't vouch for them personally, but the web site looks promising. But there again, most web sites do! Good luck.

That's not a part number I recognize. Perhaps posting a picture or a description? My wife's key is a large cup with 4 pins around the outside of it that locate onto the rim of the bolt to undo it. There are many different types out there though.

Picture of what I've got:

This type are by far the worst design i've come across. Particularly if some gorilla over tightens them you're in for a world of hurt because they fail remarkably easy. I've recommend replacing with just normal bolts but insurance might have something to say about that. To my mind though the days of alloy wheel theft are behind us really.

You can get locking wheel nut removal sockets but their effectiveness depends on the type of locking wheel bolts used.

Again depending on the type of bolt used I have had previous success with hammering a slightly too small socket onto the bolt and undoing it. Socket will be a toughened metal where the bolt will be a softer alloy so some convincing hits with a hammer will work.

Have you asked Peugeot about just removing the bolts for you? I'd be surprised if one of the techs didn't have a key laying around somewhere?

I'd also give some other local tyre garages a ring - lets face it, it isn't that unusual for people to lose their locking key, so a decent tyre fitter will at least be able to offer some advice, if not have a method or means of removal. I've seen people weld nuts onto the end of bolts before to get them off although access isn't the easiest on the peugeot alloys.

Keep trying - good luck.
