Peugeot 206 2002 model blown ecu
I have a 2002 Peugeot 206 1.4 petrol automatic. Recently power failure while driving and found that ecu circuit board had literally blown. Bought second hand replacement ecu from eBay and installed. Didnt get key with second hand ecu. Check engine light is illuminating when ignition is turned on suggested second hand ecu is ok. When I try to start the engine is turning over but will not start. Almost like the engine immobiliser is set. Also the Eco mode message is showing. The central locking is still operating with the key fob. Tried BSI reset process and not resolved. I would appreciate any advice you have. Is there a process to be followed when installing replacement second hand ecu? Thanks.

As I understand it, you needed to change the ECU, BSI and keyfob(s) as a matched set. As you did not, you now need to get your BSI "virginised", i.e put in a new and unprogrammed state (this involves writing to the EPROM using special tools), from which it can be programmed with Planet to "marry" the new ECU.
You then need a virgin keyfob module and transponder - neither can be re-used. The new keyfob can be programmed to the newly programmed BSI, again with Planet. The old keyfob blade can be transferred to the new, so you do not need to change the locks. There are four flavours of keyfob, depending on age of the car and whether it has front fogs - do not buy cheap EBay from the Far East - they will probably be the wrong flavour.
The alternative is to start again with another ECU, together with its BSI and keyfob(s). That way there will be no writing to EPROM and programming with Planet, provided the donor car had the same accessories (if not, the BSI will have to be programmed with Planet to reflect what your car has).

Thanks for your prompt response and advice. I assume there are no alternative quick fixes and reset/realign the existing key, bsi and replacement ecu? Is it just the key transponder compatibility with the replacement ecu that is causing difficulties? Sorry to bombard you with additional questions but I was hoping to do some DIY to resolve but appears there is only a technical solution. Thanks again.

Virginising and reprogramming the BSI is what is needed to realign it to the new ECU.welshboy wrote:...I assume there are no alternative quick fixes and reset/realign the existing key, bsi and replacement ecu? It is not just the transponder which has to be replaced - the keyfob module is locked to the old ECU-BSI combination and cannot be repurposed to another one - that is why you should never buy a 2nd hand Peugeot keyfob - the module is scrap.
There is a 3rd option - get your original ECU repaired.
