My first roof catastrophe!

Post by Kirisute »

Well owned my CC for over a year now and I love it to bits!
No problems at all other than General running costs etc
So; yesterday I was happily reversing out of my garden, dropping the roof as I go (I know! I know!), pull under my washing line, a thing I've done 100's of times in this very same procedure, stop for the few seconds it takes to finishing shutting the roof and hear this god awful wrenching crunch!

The boot lid had snagged the line and jammed up everything! Warning beeps resounded to help censor my expletive laden outburst!!

My own fault of course, but still.... not impressed!

So here what I did in case anyone else is fool enough to do this! (Roof was on final section of opening; so folded in boot and boot lid was on closing procedure)

1: with help close the boot upper lid. You can apply pressure to close the lid if you're careful or to lift it to full opening as well.
2: with lid closed open the boot
3: reach between the roof sections and loosen the hydraulic pressure on the right hand side
4: shut boot and use steady pressure, on both sides, to raise boot lid again ( mine clunked and fracked etc through this: bloody worrying but had to fight through it)
5: manually raise and lock the roof
6: lower the upper roof lid as far as possible
7: open boot, tighten hydraulic pressure and pull roof screen out into position. (In my flustered state I forgot this and thus the roof kept failing! Was about an hour later I slapped my forehead and thought what a prat I was because I couldn't get the roof working!!)
8: close the boot
From now on it's inside the car!
Unlock the roof catches
9: put key in ignition and press BOTH the window switches
10: turn the key to position 2; keep the window keys pressed!
11: after 5-6 seconds press the roof close switch and hold it; after a few seconds you should hear the roof finish its closing routine and lock itself down.
At this stage the wise might suggest taking it to a garage and getting it all checked!
I'm not wise!
12: open the roof!! I sat and listened to all manner of grinding and whirring as the hydraulics pulled themselves back into routine and reset everything to tolerance.
13: close the roof!
Job done!

The manual refers to the white u clips inside the roof being turned to manual. Yes you can do this and wen you shut the upper lid this will lock it shut. So you can safely drive to a garage and get your roof fixed.
That's your call. Personally I tried the full reset; nothing to lose really.

The manual also states the roof reset procedure but lists it as "closing the roof if the windows won't work"

Hope this helps someone out there

You are taking all sorts of risks operating the roof with the car in motion. You can easily corrupt the roof ecu. Best practise is to start engine and operate roof without touching anything else until cycle is finished
